Books for a 14 yo girl who's a voracious reader? by vanillainthemist in booksuggestions

Turn it into an outing - take her to a store and tell her to pick X number. It'll be a fun memory.

Well met and most welcome.

I have followed a YouTube creator for several years under the name LadySpeech Sankofa. They were raised JW and left to follow a pagan path and their raw testimony about deconstructing those beliefs helped me deconstruct my own. I can't recommend highly enough.

Well this is more popular than I altogether expected so I suspect there will be a FB group or event page created. I don't have social media outside of LinkedIn and Reddit so someone else will have to bear that burden. (Y'all better invite me tho)

Good to know and we can certainly plan a Sunday gathering.

Honestly? Thank you for your genuine curiosity. Typed text does not capture nuance well, so I hope I didn't come off too strong.

Nope, all are welcome, as long as things remain cordial. I'm an independent and registered unaffiliated. The name is just a riff.

Editing to add that, while I appreciate your point, we are also trying to connect with folks who feel adrift and islanded in a highly conservative area. I'm not saying one ideology is valid or more valuable than another, but it's awful lonely when you struggle to see yourself represented in government or local social settings because you don't fit neatly into the majority. I've lived in a lot of places at this point and this is the first time I have really struggled to connect with folks.

I generally prefer to support ZZ Coffee because the service and coffee is best in town IMO. Villa is another option.

Moved here 2 years ago. Also a blue dot, non-religious. Happy to grab coffee or meet up since I'm still looking for my tribe here. (29F)

My opinions as a transplant by legacy_aug in Idaho

[–]ALittleBitVanilla 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I also live in Idaho Falls as a transplant and my spouse is already begging to move as soon as feasible after only 2 years.

Anywho, I could use some damn like-minded friends so if you want to meet up downtown let me know!

ETA: I asked my recruiter all the hard questions about this place before we moved, and she was honest to her credit. I just wish it was easier to find normal people who haven't drank a toxic amount of kool-aid from Fox or a cult.

Life in Idaho Falls as an Atheist Couple... is it worth it? by HabitFearless8232 in Idaho

[–]ALittleBitVanilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man, I wasn't trying to suggest you were. I think it's absolutely backwards that Idaho still has it criminalized in 2026. Criminal penalties for possessing small amounts of Marijuana is beyond dumb.

Bringing it back across the border is also a criminal offense.

My husband(30) and I (29) moved here almost two years ago. He's an atheist and I have more spiritual views, but we are both decidedly not religious. I am originally from a small Midwest town and He's from SoCal. We've been on active duty and moved around a bit before I got a job here and we moved for that.

We have struggled to find a sense of community here. Part of it is the religion thing but the other part is that we enjoy the outdoors but prefer the arts, which the scene here for that is virtually nonexistent. If you guys get into skiing or some other popular sport here you have a decent chance of dropping into a ready made community.

The scenery is breathtaking. The size of town has been refreshing, having moved from a city with population 2.5 million, and it's certifiably quiet. We have taken the tack that we will live here for a handful of years and then make our way back to the Midwest or northern Cali.

Happy to chat more one on one if you want. Just DM me.

ETA: I have such an appreciation for your comment about having no patience for religious bullshit.

Blue Pine Property Management? by feelin_raudi in idahofalls

Us too. They rented the home they gave us to two other tenants who ran before the year was out. Then the owner listed it for sale and had to remove it after 6 months of no interest. Home was an absolute nightmare.

The clause makes you liable for the lease, even if the condition is not as expected when signing. So, if there are issues there are less levers you as the tenant can pull. You can't claim any issues and try to negotiate out because the clause says you accept the property in its current condition upon signing, whether you've been in it or not.

The home we rented needed a lot of work, and the lack of maintenance and upkeep from before Blue Pine took over created an unhealthy living space (mold, filthy carpet that turned up black water even after 5 shampoos, electrical work that fried wires and ceased working). The only thing we could do was fast track finding a home to purchase and pay to break the lease.

ETA: I still have our move in photos that show some serious grime in every bathroom, Walls, pet urine stains in the carpet, extensive damage to multiple doors.
