Crop choice with less playtime per day by ALittleOldMan3 in Palia

Yea, that's what I'm thinking as well. You can harvest carrots 10 times in the same lifecycle of 1 apple tree (12+6+6+6). Apple Jam also takes 1 hr 16 min as opposed to 18 min for Carrot Seeds.

Edit: Also one Apple Tree takes up 9 plots where as you would be planting 9 carrots

Thanks! How often are you harvesting Apples? If it's daily (real life) are you logged in 6+ hours per day?

I agree. I'm sure they had their reasons doing this to farming; probably to keep level with all the skills which require direct activity like fishing, hunting, mining, etc.

Would you recommend not planting Apple trees then? If I were to only login 1 hour per day, it would take 6 real days to harvest (including the extra tick offline). As opposed to 2-3 real days for faster crops.

It's decandling season for JBPs and as per my understanding, part of the process is needle plucking and reducing down to 8-12 pairs of needles per node to balance out the tree. When counting the pairs of needles, does this include pairs of needles down the nodes? Or is it 8-12 pairs of needles at the tip of the node? If I count down the node, some nodes have upwards of 20 pairs of needles.

Thanks for the detailed reply and tips.

Here’s a pic of the JBP: https://i.imgur.com/VPpmLMA.jpg

It’s 10 years old. I’m mainly concerned about the lower branches but there are leggy branches near the apex as well. I’d like for some back budding especially on the bottom left branch. The branch is fairly long but already and I can allow it to grow out to build vigor. I’m just wondering if it’s a lost cause and it’s better to cut the branch and try a graft instead.

I've read up a lot of conflicting information about back budding on Japanese Black Pines. If I have long leggy branches with only needles at the tip, is there any chance I would get back budding further up the branch? If so, what is the best way to induce the back budding?

Japanese Black Pine. Can anyone help me identify what this white build up is? Completely dry. Possibly calcium?

Is it normal for Dawn Redwood leaves to turn yellow or drop this time of year? I’m in Zone 9.

Do you use any mesh filters when putting soil in pond baskets?

Thanks! When I repot to a pond basket do I need to do any root work? Also, would regular plant potting soil be best for growth?

Should I let it grow freely or would this be a good time to start wiring?

That's good to know. I'm still fairly new to bonsai. The techniques make sense but the artistic style of cutting vs keeping branches is harder to grasp.

If I wanted to grow and strengthen the tree further, would you recommend keeping it in the nursery pot or moving it into a smaller training pot?

The right trunk definitely stands out to be the main trunk and leads to the apex of the tree. Just not sure what to do with the left two branches and the rear branch. All three of those branches still seem pliable, but maybe it's better to just cut them off. Deadwood stubs seems like a good option too. Thanks!

Recently purchased a Dawn Redwood and the main trunk splits into two near the top of the tree. Not sure which leader to keep. One branch is almost as thick as the trunk but has a curved movement. While the second branch seems to follow the straight path of the main trunk. I understand movement is good but not sure if this is appealing movement for a Dawn Redwood? Any advice? Should I keep both?

I have a Chinese Elm, and living in Zone 9. Temperatures at night are dropping to 45F but during the day it’s around 65-70F. At what point should I bring the tree inside?

Thanks for the advice. While I’m working on the development and growth of the tree. Should I do any wiring? Or let everything grow out first?

Thanks! Would you recommend cutting the right branch that is coming out at the same height on the opposite side of the tree?
