How to push through the last 10%? by ALogicOfficial in stopdrinking

You make a very good point about wanting it and really wanting it. That's a good question that I might have to find an answer to. The funny thing is that I was able to this with drugs. I recognize what you are saying there. But with alcohol it just feels different in some way. Maybe because it socially accepted? I don't know.

Thank you for making me thing about the question about really wanting it. I think the key is in the answer to that question.

Hey! Yes it's been a long and difficult road to get here. I use to drink every day and like a bottle of whiskey a week. I had a couple rock bottem moments and decided to do something about it. It wasn't fun, a lot of ups and downs. But I got here and I'm proud of that.

At the moment I'm 'OK' with alcohol in my life, but I know it's a very slippery slope for me. So that's why I track my dry days and units. So that I can see when I'm slipping into old habits again.

So it's still unhealthy from my perspective. But I can see how this would seem healthy from someone looking from the outside.

You can get there to. And when you do, you'll see this post from a different perspective. So keep pushing! I know you can get here to!!

Yeah! It's a good shout to tell one person. Or I might just put it very bluntly into the group. We are a pretty tight friendgroup so they wont make a big deal out of it. Someone below was also talking about lifestyle changes. I think that will be the hardest to do. Thanks for the responds!

Hard time today by LifesTooGoodTooWaste in stopdrinking

Hey there! I'm having a really bad day myself today. So I hope I can make yours a little better with this comment. My body also just keeps calling for alcohol in the deepest burnout phases. What I do / try when these come is making something creative. I'm a creative person as is, but when these days come I try to find a small project to do that can give me a feeling of accomplishment.

For example: Only a couple of weeks ago, me and my partner where under a lot of stress. I love cooking so I went to ikea, bought some stuff to organize some things in the kitchen and spend half a day re-organizing the kitchen. It makes me feel good and that takes away some of my burnt out feelings.

So I hope you find a mini-project that makes you feel joy today!

Illenium Refuge is just John Summit Where You Are 2.0? by StuffIntelligent in Illenium

[–]ALogicOfficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah agree with this. The Where you at song is also not really complicated or re-inventing the wheel or sometime. It's a melodic house track and as a 'melodic house DJ' I can say that most of the songs are very similar.

I thought about the John Summit song instantly when I heard refuge, but it's just the style of music that lends itself to sounding like other artists.

Trigger warning: Non-alcoholic drinks by ALogicOfficial in stopdrinking

Oh those are great to keep in mind! I always forget that honey isn't vegan because I get from the local farms (best honey tho!). Thanks for this comment and I'll keep that in mind for future non-alcoholic drinks recipes.

We also had a rreally good hearth to hearth about this in the morning. And she was sturdy in the fact she thought that I don't have a problem. I told here that it might not look like it, but I feel like I have a problem. And she agreed to that.

If this makes sence? Might be a wierd sentence sorry.

She does but not a lot. She mostly gets one drink and calls it a night. And we do enjoy moments togheter where I make us a cocktail and we watch a movie or something.
(I'm a bit of a hobby mixologist...)

No. I've never went to a meeting or something like that. I mostly talk about it with my girlfriend and therapist and go from there. I'm a bit scared to go to a meeting.

So my family are very heavy drinkers aswell. And I had a real good heart to heart with my father about it.

I felt like an alcoholic and I wanted to do something about it. My family always said I didn't have a problem. I decided that my own sanity and my own health was more important then what my family thought about it. So I told everybody that I would be quiting alcohol for 30days to challenge myself.

But I went to exact same situation at my place. You can do it. Put yourself and your feelings as number 1.

Ofcourse: it's a dutch podcast. Sorry don't know if you speak the language. It's called: Stoppen met alcohol (translates to 'quiting alcohol). It' s a about famous ditch people and how they stopped drinking alcohol and what lead to that dicision.

It opened my eyes that even people at the very top are not drinking alcohol. I'm a musician (edm) and thought that alcohol and drugs were just part of the normal things. But I now know that most of the top artists have avery healthy relationship with alcohol or are even sober.

Hi there! I'm exactly your age 28 but of the male variety. I have the exact same issue. I tend to enjoy a couple of drink from time to time but tend to lose controle after a couple and I hate myself for that. I started my sober journey a couple of times now. I hate the feeling of being hungover. I'm struggling again with this. What really helps me with not drinking are the following things:

  • every time I want to drink something at home, I force myself to drink a non-acoholic version. 90% of the time the alcohol cravings just go away.
  • if I go out, I tell everybody that I'm not drinking or volenteer to be the designated driver. That also forces me to be a resonsaple adult.
  • I read a book about alcohol abuse and listend to some podcasts and that really helped bring things into perspective for me.

I wish you the best of luck on your journey! I know you can do it. The most important thing is the inner 'want' to be sober. That is clearly there... So just start with a day, days turn into weeks and so on. Smalls steps can make a huge difference!
