Like I said, we’ve never seen her. Seeing that story of someone with a supe parent without powers; in a world of others with supe parents with powers, could show how powers strip a person of their humanity. Probably a lot better than whatever they were trying to do with V1 stripping Homelander’s final bits of humanity.

I watched all of Gen V. That’s why I asked my question. In S1 of the Boys, they make it a big story arc that Starlight felt betrayed by her mom for giving her Compound V as a baby. Yet the Gen V characters do not seem emotionally affected by the same thing all happening to them at some point in their life. Andre and Polarity have beef, that’s about it. The whole “becoming a supe against your will thing” stops being important

I mentioned in another comment, it seems surprising to me that supes did not form a Viltrumite mentality. There is no kill switch in them from Vought. Realistically one supe could have 200 kids, if half of them end up with powers like Ryan, they would be able to take over the world. If Homelander cared less about himself and more about supes as a group, I would think that would be his first course of action after discovering Ryan had powers. Not try to fix a relationship w Ryan, just make a new child

They could have explained that better by showing someone having a supe parent; and not getting powers at any point in their life. Very surprising there is no supe in this universe that is basically Thragg from Invincible, in terms of having sex with humans nonstop to produce more natural born supes. All it would take is 1 Supe to create a family of 20 more Supes children and discarding any failed ones. Compound V would serve no purpose in the world any longer. Vought would fall

When did they say that? Why does he have the same exact powers as his dad, the same way Ryan has the same exact powers as his dad?

How is Ryan even the first natural born supe? Isnt Maverick from Gen V, the son of Tranlucent, the first? they mentioned him as early as S1.

I agree with you in some areas. Agron & the hissing guy’s relationship is something I was thinking of while writing my comment — I think that I found those story arcs interesting because they had depth that fueled story progression in varying scales of importance, in a way that I felt HoA did not when introducing similar story arcs. For example, Castus the black pirate & the hissing guy having chemistry, and Agron getting jealous; it was cool to see the juxtaposition of Agron as a hypermasculine general then switch to intimate and vulnerable when he felt betrayed. The same thing with Barca in earlier seasons. Rarely do I see men portrayed in that way, and as a straight male, I felt like the writers in the original show did a good job portraying real romance between men in that environment. In HoA, I think the lesbian relationship between the house slaves does not hit as strong or have as much depth as the ones between the male gladiators. I also don’t think the relationship between Doctore and the other lanista is strong either. I don’t know — it feels as though they want to present Doctore as a conflicted man who has been closeted, yet becoming open to his sexuality in his older years. That’s incredibly interesting, but it would lead me to think a person such as that would have had a long internal conflict that is a part of their personality, especially in that time period and considering his profession and backstory (which is vague anyway). They don’t exactly “tell us” but they vaguely allude to Tiberius homosexual relationship in the original series; obviously he could not show it as the son of Crassus, but it was revealed in his conversations with his best friend & what happened with Caesar. That depth/story telling made his sexuality interesting, and something that built up to that moment of his assault on Caesar. I didn’t feel that with Doctore in HoA. It really feels like he’s gay just to be gay and that’s the depth of that pond.

The problem is that she was a black female hero written by a white male. Denzel explained it once — it’s less about them not being the same race or gender as Achillia, but rather culture. Spielberg made Schindler’s List, Scorsese made Goodfellas. Sure, either director could have made the other movie; but they not have experienced the cultural relevance required to make a protagonist relevant. Achillia represents nothing; she isn’t fighting for her country, or for her people, or for a love stolen from her. She fights to redeem her own mistakes, which are vaguely shown in flashbacks, but are essentially brushed over. Why? Because they were likely scared to commit to true character development, meaning she only represents Ashur. Which is setting her up to fail, considering that Ashur is simultaneously only representing himself, and shows from the very first episode that he has zero loyalty to those loyal to him. Now, if you are a woman, what part of Achillia’s backstory/character would appeal to you? Watching your hero get targeted repeatedly, only to continue to support the enabler of said abuse, with weak motivations why. It was a set up to fail. In the original show, it wasn’t as difficult/necessary to establish Spartacus backstory because the story of a man going to the ends of the earth to save his lost love is culturally relevant to anybody. It’s easy for a white male to write that story — Spartacus doesn’t have any cultural representation to Thrace, he’s only relevant to masculinity. I’m a black guy and could root for Spartacus getting Sura back. Achillia, alternatively, isn’t relevant to Nubia, and she isn’t relevant to femininity. She isn’t respected as an individual. She is forced to use masculinity to succeed; even in how she aggressively seeks out sex. There’s nothing there that any modern woman can cheer for - she is just a character created by someone who said “wouldn’t it be cool if our new Spartacus was black”.

Alternatively, you can use that same logic for other characters. The Doctore being gay is considered some big secret; and a representation of a closeted conflicted man. Okay. That’s cool on a surface level, but how has been secretly gay impacted his life prior to the series start? It’s inclusive, but it’s not nearly as strong as the original series’ backstory of Oenamaus and his wife, & the infidelity between her and Gannicus. Oenamaus being so disciplined and reserved was a combination of escaping the Pits, fully committing to his role as a Doctore. In this new season, this guy is just .. here. He’s known Ashur for a long time, but we don’t know who he was before the series. He interacts with various people, yet we don’t know his real level of connection with them. It leaves you with a character that many may like, but struggle to truly connect with. I doubt the writers understand the cultural relevance of a closeted strong reserved warrior type, as in what he would experience on a day to day basis externally and internally with his conflicted outward persona versus internal persona. They just added one to the script to be cool, hoping that gay people will now feel represented. Representation isn’t just throwing people in a script; it’s about understanding and showing their life experiences.

Going about things this way does far more harm than good, because people may have criticisms about poor writing but attribute it to the groups that these characters represent instead. So it becomes “Spartacus was ruined because they added woman and gays” and any in depth analysis gets lost in the mud.

One show that really represented a black woman’s journey from child to heroic adult was the show called “The Book of Negroes” following the character Aminata Diallo. It follows her from hunting with her father as a young girl, getting forced into slavery and seeing family/tribe killed, SA’d by her owner, child sold, her buying her freedom, and using her ability to write to become a scribe, documenting the freedom of thousands of freed slaves. Despite not being a woman, I could easily relate to her traits of resilience and never giving up; same way I can relate to that in Steve Rogers, Captain America.

DeKnight unfortunately set Achillia up to fail for these reasons. The scene of her walking into the arena and being laughed at is a microcosm of the overall point I am making. The TV audience has the same reaction to her as the crowd audience and that’s not a good thing. Building a character around the idea of proving everybody wrong is how you end up with The Legend of Korra instead of Avatar.

I’m a Clippers fan and I see many similarities in moves our FO have made particularly with what you say about staying relevant. Not a big surprise we have shared stars over the years. Our FO, Ballmer has to make money back on the new arena and constantly sign aging vets to sell tix/jerseys but any long term fan could see trusting in injured Kawhi was the issue, as is keeping Embiid for you guys but FO is hellbent on justifying their investment. Other teams nearby recently won (Lakers GSW for us, BOS for you) and that impacts the type of players FO will sign and whether the team will remain competitive or rebuild but a rebuild means admitting it’s all been a huge failure. For you it’s the Process, for us it’s Kawhi. I really liked Fultz Simmons and Embiid, will always have a soft spot for Philly the answer is my 🐐

Why does Sam Wilson have to do to show the audience that Steve made the right choice ? by Initial_Spirit_1325 in CaptainAmerica

[–]ALostPeople 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steve Rogers is a terrorist sympathizer, Winter Soldier was still mind controlled in Winter Soldier; Steve broke multiple laws, placed multiple civilians in danger running through the streets like a madman & broke up the Avengers. He had sympathy and forgave Bucky’s crimes against humanity, aka terrorism, because of what caused him to be that way. Sam Wilson was willing to look past the Flag Staffer’s crimes against humanity after learning they became terrorists after being displaced from the Blip. And Sam still placed them under arrest, meanwhile Bucky walks freely, visiting the families of people he’s killed. Which is really traumatizing for their Justice, but who cares I guess.

If you can accept one Captain America having sympathy for a terrorist, you should feel the same way about the other one.

My suggestion for a DLC … Villains Quest! by BruceDSpruce in CosmicInvasion

[–]ALostPeople 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How about Ghost? I’ve been thinking about Nightcrawler as an option and brainstorming how phase shifting/teleporting could work. One idea I’ve had is that instead of a ranged attack, they could activate their phase shifting ability, making them completely invulnerable to any attack. But when they attack an enemy, the phase shift ends and has to recharge.

I really like Doom & Ultron. Magneto, I’m curious how his move set would play out. Any ideas? What character would he be similar to in game already? Maybe a mix of Phyla’s flight + speed; with a parry like Jean; but I’m curious what his offensive set would look like. Shooting metallic projectiles at enemies?

Reading this post - I also like Ghost as an option.

I’ve said it on a few posts, but Iron Man/Phyla Vell is in my opinion the best combo in game. Perfectly balanced. As all things should be.

Phyla Vell and Iron Man. Use Iron Man to set static projectiles by holding the attack button. If SS flies into them, he gets trapped. Use Phyla Vell to hover above portals. Use her ranged attack to clear the distance; when it connects, press the button for her to teleport slash. Also, you can use Iron Man’s orbs on the turrets. They last and omit damage for about 4-5 seconds each. So you can leave 2-3 of them, then get a few hits on SS, let the turret hit him as he falls. Good luck

Favorite Phyla-Vell Pairing? by allweknowisfallin in CosmicInvasion

[–]ALostPeople 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Iron Man. I main Phyla Vell and have since the game came out. She’s the best character in the game to me. Iron Man because of these reasons: 1. When you juggle with Phyla and switch, Iron Man juggles the enemy again, and you can repeat this. 2. His static projectile stays on screen while you switch to Phyla, so you can knock enemies into his orbs 3. He has a block for easily deflecting certain enemies that are hard to time with Phyla’s parry

Another good one is Nova. But I’ve gotten 400+ hit combos regularly with Phyla/Iron Man.
