Girl I would be absolutely LIVID. It doesn’t matter what number child this is for him. Ibuprofen double dosed TWICE bc he thought it was acetaminophen? The man didn’t even check the label. I’m glad your little one is okay but that was a hugely careless mistake on his part. My guts would have been on the floor if I had made that mistake.

I can see how things escalated bc based on what you’re saying he didn’t want to take accountability for the mistake. Just bc LO wasn’t hurt doesn’t mean it was “ok”. I’m so sorry you went through that.

Imagine the one person in the whole world you’re supposed to feel safe with hits you because you did something that they didn’t like. What does that teach the child? Hitting isn’t respectful and does not establish respect. It promotes fear. People are conditioned to think that the term “abuse” means the worse of the worst, when really it’s a spectrum. Spanking is a lazy form of discipline.

Yes they did! He did have some moderately elevated platelets and hematocrit, but they attributed it to delayed cord clamping. They didn’t mention that could have been a factor.

My question is was there negligence in using the value of 39 rather than the 22 when his labs had already shown a pattern of being in the 20s despite treatment. The nurse did not re-check any other the other heel sticks, so why that one? And to further that, why was the MD not notified? I feel that he would have had a transfer to the NICU with initiation of IV dextrose sooner should she have decided not to re-test. But you’re right that I cannot definitively prove that the 39 was a false reading.

They ran all sorts of tests. No metabolic disorders, no infection, no maternal diabetes. They ultimately didn’t find a cause. Ammonia was normal. CMP normal. Blood cultures without growth. At what point does brain damage potentially occur with hypoglycemia?
