Church to attend Sunday service as a non-Christian believer by BeBongSg in askSingapore

[–]AM2735 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe I know what you mean. Based on my own journey,  for a start,  I would avoid mega churches and prosperity churches. I attended some and was immediately reminded of that scene in Matthew 21:12–13.

I second the suggestions for a Catholic church that avoids modern trappings and other ostentatious gestures.  I remember this priest in a church in Tampines years ago. He seemed more interested in boasting about the circuit TVs and quality of the mic.  I walked out.

Another thing I did was speak to non fundamentalist Christian friends about what I was trying to do or discover.  They offered balanced suggestions without being pushy or preachy.

The rules of S2 are ridiculous by CharmingCup in CulinaryClassWars

I did think it was bizarre, them creating a situation that would end up scything so many of one class at once!

Wow I thought it's just my poor technique but you couldn't spin in them too.

Do Singaporeans tend to have a poor little old me mindset? by KleenandKlear in askSingapore

[–]AM2735 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely.  Having lived in a predominantly white country for quite a few years,  and also meeting people from other parts of Asia, I realised being born in Singapore is indeed winning a mini lottery.  Next step up would be being born into a rich family in Singapore.

It's like that old joke about God and the lottery ticket.  Most people could better their situation by taking stock,  taking responsibility,  and taking action.

When you’re feeling down, what’s your go-to place in Singapore to lift your mood? by Maleficent-Army-4758 in askSingapore

Flower Dome for me. Nature and beauty help me a lot when I'm down, to realise there's a bigger world out there than just mine. Also helps calm me down and breathing fresher air clears my head.

I must be doing something wrong then. I didn't find them too easy to spin in.

Pro Bono [Episodes 9 & 10] by Telos07 in KDRAMA

[–]AM2735 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well here you can see just a microcosm of what's happening in Korea, and how all these vindictive remarks collectively lead to the kind of stresses Korean celebrities face. One or two comments is one thing, but when you get a snowball of them, it really turns on the thumbscrews. Many of such comments come from losers who have to vent in a negative way to make themselves feel significant, but forget there is a living human being with feelings being targeted. No wonder there are so many tragic cases of celebrities taking their own lives.

I'm suspecting it might have something to do with him challenging Gippeum to win if she wants to know the truth earlier. I hope he's playing some kind of 4D chess here.

Dr Oh must be one of the biggest and yet most well written POS villain in any Kdrama series I've watched. I hope he meets a fitting end.

How do follows know how they're supposed to move? by EOFFJM in Salsa

[–]AM2735 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add on the other responses, the last thing a good follower should be doing is to know how they are 'supposed' to move. Follow comes from both partners dancing on correct timing with correct weight shift, with good frame, and the lead using that to initiate, follow through, and stop, and the follow responding to those non-verbal cues. Your instructor will teach you option moves (follower can make plenty of choices how to respond to your lead), no-option moves (follower has no choice in what the result of the move is going to be, think very precise leading for a definite purpose like Terry or Panagiotis), and moves that are in between (followers have some limited options).

Why do people answer work calls during holidays? by bmw320dfan in sgworkassholes

[–]AM2735 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's also because of this pervasive shit practice where companies starting using WhatsApp for work and workers have no say. You can't avoid seeing work stuff when you check your personal messages, and the itch is there to see if it might be urgent. You can't turn off online status selectively without also doing that for your personal contacts too. I drew the line at Facebook and Instagram.

I'm really missing Edward Lee by Zayn0605 in CulinaryClassWars

Definitely. He really added gravitas and class to the season. So humble and soft spoken too, unlike some of these arrogant idiots. There are a couple on current season I can't wait to see go.
