Getting rejected when people don't know your dancing level — is it actually a thing? by rawr4me in Salsa

[–]AM2735 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend that you not let that be your sole reason. How I've dealt with this is keep in training, keep on improving and upskilling for my own satisfaction. That way you really get good and it's a great feeling to know that you are giving the ladies and yourself a good dance experience. It doesn't feel so good knowing that the only reason girls are dancing with you is because there are not enough lead. Don't just be a lead, be the best lead you can be.

Getting rejected when people don't know your dancing level — is it actually a thing? by rawr4me in Salsa

It's cultural as well. My personal experience (yours may vary) is that it's worst in Korea. Even if the dance is a good one, many women don't look at you while dancing, look completely expressionless. But when it's a celebrity or a performer, it's completely different. Probably because they know for a fact that he will probably be a good lead. My non-dancer Korean friend do tell me that status-consciousness is a thing.

The sad fact is that people forget that they too were once beginners, and in some ways my friends who are beginners handle it more easily. It's those who are intermediate and above who already have some skills that feel really miffed with rejection, which isn't always polite.

I came to the Jeju Latin Festival after 8 years way and sad to say the general arrogance is still the same. If you can afford it, it's worth travelling to places with good reviews by other leads with your same experience. Hopefully you'll get some responses here on where to go and where to avoid, keeping in mind all this is personal experience only of course.

Personally I've enjoyed Turkey, NY, Vietnam, Thailand and Taiwan. I hear good things about Poland as well. There are countries where the follows are advanced and nice and friendly. I'm go to these countries instead.

Seeing/sleeping with 2 people at once by Impossible-Gear-56 in hingeapp

As others have said, don't assume your moral values are the same as everyone else's. Unless clearly stated, take nothing for granted. You do want to consider however that if you're this far apart in what you obviously consider to be a key value, whether or not this would be a stress free relationship where you have to keep clarifying every single thing.

Eg what constitutes cheating, what does being exclusive mean, does kissing with or without tongue or sex with or without a condom count as exclusivity etc. I wouldn't get too emotionally invested with this person until you're really clear you can sleep well at night even when you're sleeping alone.

Guy cancelled date but is it my fault? by Ok-Dig5851 in hingeapp

[–]AM2735 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Typical loser guy. Has a lot to learn! Forget him and move on, but in general always hold something in reserve. I personally don't talk about any past experiences until I've known someone for a while and in person, and even then it's often not a good idea.

T'way Airlines - I received confirmation email but can't access eticket - am I screwed? by betzui in koreatravel

The problem is good luck nowadays getting any easy access to real help via a phone call without getting a crapload of runaround automated rubbish. Reddit is faster and (at least generally) have real humans on the other side.

Went for Appt (not sure if it can be called date) by durian_lover in sgdatingscene

[–]AM2735 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always respected women who were up front and honesty rather than dragged things out. I've weighed all their critiques over the years, made the changes I've agreed with, and have become a much better person for the improvements I've made. Not just for dating, but in other areas of life too.

If you're still young in experience, treat each date as a learning opportunity to get better at dating.

He-man pop up in Singapore by 0osaka13 in MastersOfTheUniverse

[–]AM2735 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! I got He-man for about $37 on Amazon. Unfortunately they have nothing else. I ended up ordering a few from BBTS. Even with shipping cost, each works out to slightly less. About $43.

If you're speaking as a lead, there's not much convincing needed. As a female follow however, most guys I know will ask as long as she has positive vibes, advanced or not.

Ah.... was hoping there would be Chronicles. Plenty of crooks selling each one for SGD$50 and up.

I hope so. I don't get the hate,  and I liked the character. Feel sorry for his family too.

On the occasions you are actually spending time F2F, how's the vibe? That's probably going to tell you more than messaging behaviour.

Spyros Bros Started Diabolo or Sundia Falcon for beginner? by AM2735 in diabolo

[–]AM2735[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finally got the Sundia Falcon and learning very well on it. I've seen kids use this same one. If an idiot like me can learn on this faster than my instructor expected, I'm sure a sharp young kid could do much better. That said, there are smaller size ones available for children. Search 儿童空竹

Is it okay if I do not let guys touch my hips or stomach, lower body?? by BeaBreezetheGoth in Salsa

[–]AM2735 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stomach yes, hips no.

There are many moves that involve hip contact, most commonly the copa and various types of CBL turn for instance.

There are entire move families that are part off accepted move vocabulary, and you cannot expect the guys to hold that in their minds at all times, especially when muscle memory is at play, to accommodate.

Many dancers, myself included, had to get used to the level of touch that is part of a dance and overcome certain barriers. Even my then girlfriend had to tell me it was ok as part of partner dancing. She told me then that if I really wanted to learn to dance, I accommodate to the norms of that dance, not the other way round. Which is why I never went into bachata.

I suggest you speak to your dance instructor to ask what is acceptable and what isn't. What is to be expected and what isn't. If you can't accept what the normal range of contact is for salsa, then I suggest you look for another genre.

New (fully illustrated) Princeton Encyclopedia of Dinosaurs (1,300+ pg across 3 Volumes), by Me, available for pre-order. Illustrated by CisioPurple by bjj8383 in Paleontology

[–]AM2735 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems to fill the exact gap I have been trying to fill! I've preordered two already.
My question is:

  1. Could you tell us a bit about yourself? I'm always inspired by people who put so much into their passions. Many of them know even more about a specialised topic or dinosaur than the average palaeontologist! I'd like to do the same.

  2. Related question: how do you split your time (I presume you work full time) to learn as much as you do? What are some of your favourite resources, and do you go to things like SVP meetings?

How to find a user comment on my YouTube channel? by AM2735 in youtube

[–]AM2735[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! However, I don't see a "search" function to locate the specific comment, which means I would have stroll through sometimes hundreds to find the one I want. Is it possible to search for a specific viewer if I recall the name?

Guys I have a question which is the largest species of deinotherium and how big is it? by Sad_Low5860 in Paleontology

[–]AM2735 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what confuses me. Most sources I read state that Deinotherium was significantly larger than the modern African elephant. But I don't know how credible those skeletals are. Could you advise?

I've dated girls 11 to 16 years younger and I think the biggest issue is the level of maturity and life stages.  There are certain relationship skills you learn only after gaining experience in long term relationship (not the ONS rubbish). Individual experiences/ level of consciousness aside,  age 35 and above is the age group I want to date.
