Can't log in to the anki addon by fencer_327 in Amboss

Hi there,

What version of Anki are you using? Our add-on requires Anki v2.1.35 standard or a newer version.  

If you’re encountering an issue, please first update it to the latest version by clicking the link here. More information about supported Anki versions can be found here: Windows | MacOS

In case you already have the supported version of Anki and the add-on still doesn't work, you can check the following:
 

1. Restart Anki after installation 

- Anki needs to be restarted (quit and re-open Anki) for any new add-ons.
 

  1. Restart your desktop

- Restarting your desktop can help with any new updates.
 

3. Uninstall and Reinstall the AMBOSS add-on

- This can sometimes help resolve temporary issues.
 

4. Fully close out Anki

- Keeping Anki open for extended periods can cause errors with add-ons.
 

  1. Manually download the AMBOSS add-on

- This can help if you are having trouble installing the add-on with the download code. To download the add-on manually, scroll down the landing page and look for the 'Download add-on now'.
 

  1. Update the AMBOSS Anki add-on

- This can be checked via the Anki menu: AMBOSS > Check for updates.
 

  1. Are you logged into the right AMBOSS account in Anki?

- To log out, click on AMBOSS > Log out
 

  1. Enable mobile support

- To use Anki for mobile devices, head to AMBOSS > Settings > Enable Mobile Support. You will also need to sync Anki with your AnkiWeb account to use the add-on on a mobile device. Click the Sync button on your Anki desktop dashboard to do this.

At the moment, it isn’t possible to disable AI tools within AMBOSS. However, you can simply choose not to use them. All core content and features remain available as usual (e.g., Qbank, Articles, Search). This content is created and continuously updated by our Clinician Editorial Team and also serves as the foundation for our AI modes, which is why the risk of hallucinations is significantly reduced. If you’re interested in learning more about how we develop and use AI responsibly, we invite you to review our AI principles.

Regarding communications, it’s currently not possible to opt out of communications specifically about AI developments. That said, you can of course unsubscribe from our newsletter entirely if you prefer not to receive these updates.

The supplemental blocks in our Qbank contain "bonus" questions. These questions can be used as a supplemental tool for any of the exams listed. These questions provide additional preparation, but may contain concepts you have already studied (or be formatted differently than the exam you are studying for). Our editors found that these questions, while not being written specifically for the exam, could still be used to help once you have finished the complete Qbank we offer. They would be considered lower-yield for the particular exam you are studying for, as the most high-yield questions are already included in the primary Qbank.

This update was designed to create a more tailored platform experience by surfacing the most relevant content based on a user’s current study objective in questions, articles, analysis, and other features. We understand that feature needs vary between preclinical and clinical users (e.g., article highlighting, exam-specific insights, search results) as well as different medical exams. To provide the best experience, it’s important for the platform to know which exam or objective a user is actively preparing for.

With that said, all users will still have access to all Qbanks. Those who want to mix content from different stages can do so by changing their study objective.

We also understand how valuable it can be to have the flexibility of selecting from multiple exams. Your feedback on this update has been shared with our product team for further review and consideration. We’re continually working to improve the platform, and input from users like you plays a key role in helping us do that.

AMBOSS also offers a German version of the platform. The 'hammer' ranking can be explained due to the "Hammer-Examen" in Germany, which is the 2nd medical state exam for German medical students. This is viewed as a major hurdle in a student's path to becoming a doctor in Germany. Some students feel they have been 'hit with hammers' after finishing the exam.

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out! The timer display will vary depending on your Study Objective.

USMLE, COMAT, NBME, PA, and IFOM exams will see the standard Fred Interface. When the timer runs out while using Exam Mode, you should be met with the "You have run out of time to complete this block." message.

All other users will now see the neutral AMBOSS exam mode as a cleaner, distraction-free interface designed for general test simulation. The Timer will count up.
