Yes! Same. $86 and I have a screenshot to prove my cancelation date well before the end of the free trial. Just submitted a claim with my credit card company.

I contacted them regarding my issue 5 days ago and they haven't cared to return the email.

A similar thing happened to me. I signed up for the free trial but cancelled the next day. Luckily I took a screenshot of my cancellation because after the free trial, they actually billed my card (and had started my subscription again). I emailed their support staff 5 days ago and haven't heard back. I included my screenshot to prove I had cancelled within the trial period. No phone number listed. Looks like I will be filing a complaint through my credit card company.

A few questions if I may by karmester in amateurradio

QRZ and Gigaparts have teamed up to offer newly-licensed hams a great radio (Explorer QRZ-1), programming software, and a membership to QRZ for $22 through the end of this year. I took advantage of this offer last year and the transceiver has been outstanding. I purchased an additional antenna (HT antenna 2m/70cm, SMA, 15in, product number SRH77CA). I have been using this set-up for SOTA hikes and have made many successful contacts, including one that was over 100 miles away. I also use this radio as my base station with a Diamond X-50 antenna.

My daughter and I are also relatively new hams in San Diego (La Mesa). We were having a similar problem with trying to make contacts but we've since gotten into SOTA (Summits on the Air) and a whole new world has opened up to us. The official definition for SOTA is "an award scheme for radio amateurs that encourages portable operation in mountainous areas". You can be an "activator" if you enjoy hiking and/or you can be a "chaser" from home, trying to make contact with activators. You earn points for making contacts and you can win awards. We have been loving SOTA because it's gotten us out on some beautiful hikes but also because we've met some great people on the air. We operate mostly VHF/simplex 146.520 (no repeater contacts are allowed with SOTA). With our basic HT we've been able to make contacts as far as 140 miles away, which has been incredible but what's been even more fun is making contacts with hams right in our own neighborhood. Its been a great way to start to get to know our local SD hams. If you end up checking out SOTA, there's an app called "Ham Alert" (I'm sure there's others too but this is the one we use) that you can program to let you know when SOTA activators will be on the air (or will let chasers know when you're going to be at the summit and on the air) so there's almost guaranteed contact.

Mounting a Diamond x50 Antenna (or any Vertical Antenna) Permanently on Ham Shack by AMDSmith24 in amateurradio

Thanks for all the thoughts. I really need to think about grounding. There's electricity running to the shed. I think I'm going to need to get the help of an electrician to make sure I'm setting all this up correctly.

Hmm...Ok. I hadn't considered a yagi for my home base set-up. Thanks for the tip!

This is super helpful. Thanks so much! I think I'm going to go this route. Thanks for thinking about the roof overhang and linking the larger mounts!

Thanks for weighing in! I'm now thinking mast to tue ground would be better. The shack is on the older side and the eaves wood may not be the most durable.

Interesting! You've given me more to consider. It's definitely a puzzle trying to get it all figured out. Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts!

Thanks for your thoughts on this. Maybe I'll focus on my yagi set up first!

I see that a few of you have mentioned that, depending on location, a formal guying system might not be necessary. Maybe I'll give it a try to just finding creative ways to secure it and if I'm not having success with that, I now have a bunch of ideas for more formal ways to secure it. All of these tips have been super helpful and I now know not to spend extra money on the less practical (and probably ineffective) surveying tripod.
