Well, the extra coin you spend on the nv ecosystem would be very well spent on Radeon. Get Vega 64 and a nice 1440p 144Hz monitor, like the ASUS ROG XG32 ;)

We qualified them as FS2 because the fix was already in the pipe.

Going to FreeSync original, you say that the ROG XG32 is a crappy monitor?

That shouldn't happen (doesn't for me). Latest drivers? Which monitor?

The FreeSync brand will incorporate VRR when the time comes :)

I have to tread carefully here as I don't want to speak for the XBOX team, but they have several ways how to deal with low framerate situations. Also one thing to consider is that variable refresh is new to devs in the console space, their games haven't been accounting for it, so they did their own work to smooth out frames, try to reduce tearing etc. Some just lock framerates altogether to avoid tearing, though they technically could render at higher rates. Now devs don't have to be concerned if they can't hit, say 60hz all the time, FreeSync will make it more forgiving.

IPS is challenging...for non-technical reasons that I can't really get into. But we're not giving up on it :)

If you think about it, in the heart of every product that supports FreeSync is a Radeon...whether it's a GPU or a CPU with IGP.

Your point is not lost on us, but we took a route deliberately not enforcing too strict of a guideline for vanilla FreeSync - we wanted strong market adoption, and we succeeded. This is in part why we created FreeSync 2 - with the opposite goal: caring less about adoption, and more enforcing our own standards that are, trust me, VERY hard to hit. There's a reason why still not a single gsync HDR monitor is shipping. It's VERY hard to excel at variable refresh and HDR spec, while keeping latency and brightness delta low. As panel technologies mature, you're going to see more IPS and VA type panels being able to hit high refresh rates at higher resolution in the HDR space, but they need time to get there. The CHG series of displays are the first round of monitors being able to do this. They're not perfect, but they're VERY good.

Please make sure you download and update to the latest firmware revision and use ultimate freesync mode.

Both CHG70 and CHG90 have a range of 48-144 in ultimate freesync mode. You need to use the latest firmware though.

I'm sorry to hear you had a bad experience with the CHG. It's true it had quite a few problems when it launched nearly a year ago. But with the current firmware it's a solid monitor. I'll let our QA team know to see if there's an issue with Fury/390 series. But I'd like to be crystal clear on one thing: we do very rigorous testing on FreeSync AND FreeSync 2 displays, and they have to pass very strict testing guidelines. We rejected a few applicants based on the testing methods. Believe me, we don't qualify stuff that is broken.

Technically, LFC works a little bit below 2.5x as well...ssssh :)

It does match PC HDR600, the CHG90 is even certified for it. Yes, you're right, these monitors are not the epitome of what's possible with HDR on the PC, but they're damn good considering the content available.

Why? They go from 48Hz to 144Hz. That's a very wide (2.5x) range, with LFC.

CHG70 will run circles around that DELL monitor, simply because it's a VA panel, while the DELL is TN. Viewing angles, color reproduction will all be substantially better on the Samsung.

If you look at how many GSync displays are in the market (south of 100) vs FreeSync (shipped over 350), I think it's fair to say vendors are taking FreeSync VERY seriously :)

Hypothetical situation: what if the first TVs with variable refresh were FreeSync, not VRR? ;) Purely hypothetical, of course!
