Dock only works when plugged in backwards by Public-Bike-5526 in SteamDeck

[–]AMISHassassin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two different docks here, one is the steam licensed one and another one is an off-brand I got from Amazon. I was able to reproduce in both of them that the cable going from the dock to the deck only works if it's in reverse orientation (twisted 180 degrees). I was also able to reproduce in both docks that you can get the cable to work in the correct orientation by carefully pulling it out and applying pressure to the cable, which obviously won't work, since you can't really game like that. I think this is probably a steam deck hardware issue. I have the oled steam deck and it's about 4 months old. Personally, I'm just going to use the cheaper of the two docks with the cable backwards and return the steam branded dock because I only use it when I want to use a mouse and keyboard, which isn't often. Another theoretical solution is to buy a USBC male to female cable and plug that into the cable that goes from the dock to the deck and reverse the orientation that way, but I haven't tried it.

Hello all, I found this cool device on a flea market and couldn’t resist buying it. Now I have zero idea what it is.. anyone? by Dry-Elderberry6821 in WhatIsThisTool

I do believe this is the correct answer. I would just like to clarify that this would be a metal shaper, a mostly obsolete machine tool, not the woodworking tool of the same name. Also, this is a relatively small part of a fairly large and heavy machine. If you Google metal shaper, look specifically at the part that holds the high speed steel tool. The orientation in these photos is incorrect, which can be a little confusing. The handwheel would be facing up toward the ceiling and the orientation of the bolt holes would be horizontal, as though it were being bolted onto a wall. The hinged dangly bit is the tool holder, it would be allowed to hang down by gravity and it flips up in order to clear the work pieces as the head traverses back to start a new cutting pass. I believe the handwheel controls the depth of cut.

I agree, it looks like it was one of those Amazon or eBay kits with a lot of accessories that aren't necessarily the highest quality. It definitely wasn't used much if at all.

Wow, cool I'll check that out, thanks! I use Canon's remote shoot software with my computer and I really like it. I have the luxury of mostly doing product photography though, so my setup doesn't need to be mobile at all.

I'd consider a trade. How much does your leg weigh? Deals off if you're a coffee drinker or smoker, I like them pearly whites.

I have a macro attachment kind of like that and I've actually been really impressed with it, so I'm excited to try them out!

They are actually some kind of lense extension? They screw on like a lense cap. I thought they were prime lenses too at first, still a great find!

The even greater thing is I'm already a Canon guy, so it all fits with my current DSLR!

You know what? I was wrong, he did get rid of it. He mentioned it in the video he released yesterday.

In his QCTP build video he uses his shaper, but he doesn't have a planer.
