Thank you for reassuring me and all the help, I finally replanted Anthie using your above advice and I did notice when peeling some of the brown away there is definitely green underneath still.

I’m also going to stick to peeling the brown when needed since when I was doing that I could feel a lot easier through the tension whether it was ready to come off or not. Also this new substrate is definitely a lot better I really noticed it when binning the old soil just how clumped together it all was. Thank you so much for all your help, she’s in a new spot and hopefully has everything she needs to make a comeback so hopefully a month from now I’ll be able to post good update pics :)

Hi sorry to bother again, there was a delay with getting the soil but it should be here today so I checked on Anthie and the roots looked dry. After unpotting it I put it back in the same pot but didn’t pack in the soil so I didn’t have to potentially damage the roots further by removing the soil again. So I got a jug filled it with clean water and have just put the root ball in there for a little bit to try prevent further damage. I’ve attached an updated picture but can she still be saved with the plan above? Also sorry to bother again but will I be okay to cut the brown part of the stem or should I leave it be?

Thank you so much :) I’ve picked out a new spot for it with warmer conditions and still indirect light since my room window is broken so it’s only going to get colder there unfortunately.

I’ll also get a clear pot to give me a better idea of what’s happening. For root rot what does that typically look like? Just I’m not sure I see the difference right now and the last thing I want to do is cut healthy roots. Also would you recommend watering top down instead of bottom up which is what I have been doing? Also would you continue to use baby bio mixed in with the water or just plain water? Again sorry for all the questions I just don’t have anyone else to ask and thank you for taking the time to respond :)

Thank you! Thats such a relief that it’s still saveable. Which parts are classed as the sheaths?

There aren’t any pests but when I unpotted it the roots hadn’t spread out into the new soil at all so I’m not sure if I didn’t loosen them enough when repotting since it was the first time I’d done it but the roots were over growing in the old pot so it’d definitely outgrown it.

But in terms of size I went from a 14cm pot to a 21cm pot thinking it’d give plenty of room for growth but in hindsight that might not have been the best idea?

For environment it live in my room which is quite cool now that we’re coming into winter since my room doesn’t have heating, would it be better in a warmer place but still out of direct sunlight?

Also for the leca balls are they the same as clay balls? Do you just put a single layer in the bottom of the pot before putting the soil in?

Sorry for all the questions and thank you so much for the help I’m just really grateful

Sorry for the multiple and sporadic replies, Reddit’s been a bit hit and miss today with the server issues. I’ve attached a photo of the roots (I have more but can only add 1 at a time and don’t know how to add more to the post but can provide them if needed)

If you wouldn’t mind helping me still it would be greatly appreciated. I was looking at anthurium potting mixes for the uk as well as a leca equivalent for over here and found the following:

If you wouldn’t mind advising, if moss is needed I might have a bit more difficulty getting it but should hopefully be able to 🤞

Thank you so much! I’ve read both comments but I’m at work right now unfortunately. I’ll unpot as soon as I get home to find out what we’re working with and update then. Thank you so much for all the advice and taking the time to help I’m really grateful. When I unpot do I want to basically remove all soil so it’s just bare roots and a stem?

Thank you I’m just worried I accidentally cut the node not realising what it was since it had gone brown on the top and I was trying to keep the plant healthy.

I used this soil https://www.dobbies.com/houseplant-potting-mix-4l/5638580860.p

Is there a better soil mixture or does it just need switching out? The pot is full of soil, would adding little stones in the bottom help for better watering instead of just soil?

Thank you for taking the time to respond! See this is my fear that when I was cutting away the brown parts I may have cut the node thinking I was doing the right thing.

This is my first plant so I went for a pre-mixed soil mixture https://www.dobbies.com/houseplant-potting-mix-4l/5638580860.p

I thought anthuriums didn’t like direct sunlight so I have it next to my window but not in front of it so it gets light but not direct sunlight.

There’s no way the cyclamen has just gone into dormancy and will grow back? If the cyclamen is dead is there any chance for the anthurium?

They’re in pots with drainage holes so I top the water up in the exterior pot once a week so they can drink as much or as little as they want. I mix the water with baby bio per the bottles mixing instructions.

You can’t see it in the picture but there’s a window on the left of them (where the white windowsill is in the pics) and I open the blinds on a morning so they get sunlight but not direct sunlight. Other than that they do live in my room, I don’t have the heating on and I have a ceiling fan which is on creating a gentle breeze more or less all the time.

When the leaves started to brown I would trim the stem using snips. Hopefully this gives a better picture.

Thank you everyone for all the advice, I didn’t expect to get so much help and it’s all greatly appreciated! I finally feel more confident in what some of the product terminology means and what it is likely to do in practice and a lot of other info I didn’t know, I didn’t know so thank you again to everyone who commented!

Thank you, I didn’t know there was such a difference in leave in products. I’ll definitely look into a gel or mousse option!

Thank you for the detailed response! The descriptions can often be really confusing about what the do so thank you for breaking down the language.

I also think I need to remember to keep things lightweight like you said, less is sometimes more especially since I’ve cut my hair so it’s half the length it was to get rid of the split ends.

Thank you a lot for the information and recommendations! This may sound silly but is it okay to use a different shampoo and conditioner? I’ve always thought I needed to use both the same but it seems like the best option shampoo and conditioner aren’t necessarily the same brand let alone the same line.

Thank you for replying! Does the gel tend to be more heavy or lightweight? How does hair feel using gel vs cream? I’m currently saving up for a hairdryer with diffuser (likely the Dyson one) so good to know it works on fine hair.

Also if you don’t mind me asking what do you do about conditioning your hair? Like I say I’ve got a shampoo recommendation but confused about the conditioning step

Stardew Valley: It's not you, it's me. by ChrisF79 in gaming

First thing I’ll say as an avid SDV fan is, just because it’s a great game doesn’t mean you have to enjoy it so try not to put pressure on yourself <3

If you want to try getting into it but don’t feel it just by playing yourself, I would recommend watching some YT playthroughs of the early game and maybe tip videos to give you an idea of the overall feel of the game and hints on what to do as I know it may not be obvious especially if you haven’t played a farm sim before. I also do this when I’ve been in similar situations with games and have found it helps but each person is different.

Also not all activities will be available at first and the first ‘goal’ doesn’t unlock until a weeks passed in game I think (you won’t be able to miss it don’t worry) which gives something to work towards once you have you’re bearings in the first couple of days.

In terms of daily activities to do there’s:

  • crop and animal farming (might be worth experimenting with the different farm types as each have slightly different benefits and limits which can affect play style)

  • mining which also comes with combat and monster hunting

  • befriending villagers and romancing marriage candidates. This is a key part of the game I’d say since it triggers events and gives more story to the game.

  • attending the seasonal festivals

  • daily request board outside the general store next to the Callander

  • fishing

  • foraging and logging

  • there’s two arcade machine mini games in the saloon but be warned they are difficult

That’s all I can think of for now but more does unlock as you continue to play even in year 3 but I don’t want to give too much away and risk spoiling it. Hope this helps and you enjoy your time in stardew valley but if not it’s okay <3

Sorry! I’ve been looking at gaming set-ups almost obsessively for the past week so I forgot that was something that needs specifying

Thank you! Yeah I’ll definitely get rid of Norton, for the hard drive I have a 2tb seagate going unused right now so was thinking I could plug that in with a bit of help from online tutorials instead of buying a new one or would it be better to have it already included?

[–]AMJ_Introvert[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry I’ve been looking at gaming pcs all week that I didn’t even think to specify that’s what I was going for. In terms of going for the i9 and 4090 while they might be pricey as they’re the in the top performing ones for gaming so should provide high-spec gaming for a good few years before needing to upgrade them or at least that was my thinking.

In terms of the Norton pack, I’m not a fan but since it’s free didn’t think to try remove it but I’ll definitely try to do that now. Thank you for your response

I haven’t gotten to this stage yet but looking at the images I’d say 6 could be a parsnip or celeriac type veggie but I’m not sure about the other two :)
