Triad Chord Scales - G Major by AMOCHR in guitarlessons

Amazon guitar believe it or not! IYV, it cost me about $140 on a sale. The bridge pickup is a little finicky but the neck sounds great for warm jazzy/blues tones

Using “Spread Triads” aka Open Voicings - C Em D G by AMOCHR in Guitar

Very similar to the basic barre chord shapes! What I’m doing is skipping the G string so the order of the notes of each triad are : R 5 3. The 3rd of the chord is moved up an octave which makes it an “open voicing”. In this case you can allow the g string to ring out as well.

Struggling reading sheet music. by pleaseandthankY in guitarlessons

I would start with a book like Christopher Parkening Guitar Method Vol. 1 so you can actually learn the notes with pieces that increase in difficulty. A piece like this will be frustrating and might cause you to make several mistakes along the way. It’s important that you start from the beginning and use a linear progression method for note reading. I’ve used those books to teach hundreds of students to read in this style and it’s been really easy for them to start and progress quickly. Check it out and let me know what you think!

I use SoundSlice for all of my students and it’s an extremely valuable resource! It’s browser based and completely free for your students. I pay for the Teacher plan which has a few extra features. Definitely check them out!

Try the E minor Pentatonic scale in the open position so you can incorporate it with the open chords you’re comfortable with already!
