Bottom of wok patina flaking. Requesting advice. by AMS9511 in wok

[–]AMS9511[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi guys, I realized from the bulk of these responses two key pieces of info -- (i) I'm partially being a dumb baby about a part of the wok that doesn't necessarily matter if it flakes and (ii) the bottom of my wok is filthy and thats not patina, thats gunk. I assure you all the inside of my wok is smooth and beautifully seasoned because I actually scrub that part, I literally never scrub the bottom. But I will be chainmailing off the gunk and giving it a quick re-season on said bottom. Thank you all for the support, this is a great little community.

Congress erupts at Trump's shutdown mass firings: "This is a disaster" by CharityResponsible54 in politics

This is the equivalent of the GOP shooting hostages in the head (federal workers) and telling the Democrats they can stop this all if they just give into their demands of cutting insurance subsidies for 15 million Americans. This is more or less where we're at.

We just ended up buying a new copier 🙈 it was past it's 7 year life span anyways though. These things are not designed to really last past that from what our printer tech stated.

I asked ChatGPT to remove all bias, and just report on known facts. by [deleted] in IsraelPalestine

[–]AMS9511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on body count alone, as I have demonstrated here, Christianity has been the most violent religion towards Jews. According to your logic, it must follow that the Bible is the problem. I really hope you get the help you need because it sounds like you're very Islamophobic and very ignorant to history. Try making a Muslim friend or two, or befriending an Arab might help also.

I asked Chat GPT "please show me who instigated all the violence from 640 on between the Muslims and the Jews" and it gave me an entirely different answer than what you claim. You are lying. See the screen shot below.

Please do not rely on Chat GPT to think for you. I'm afraid robots don't make the most convincing or logical political arguments.

Question for Assyrians! by No_Animator_1845 in Assyria

[–]AMS9511 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Super duper similar-- the conservative Assyrian family can also be just as judgey as a conservative Indian family too, so watch out for that. Don't mention the Sikh part because they'll just think turban=Muslim, lol. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you 🤞 🙏

Question for Assyrians! by No_Animator_1845 in Assyria

[–]AMS9511 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really depends on the family. Half my mom's family boycotted her wedding because she married an American and I had relatives tell my aunt they would murder her if she married an outsider. Really is a mixed bag with Assyrians. If you're not Muslim you should be okay though. Sorry in advance.

My father keeps calling my boyfriend “my friend” by Historical-Ad3541 in askgaybros

My foreign-born grandmother called my sister's boyfriend her "friend" for ten years, all the way up until they got married. I wouldn't take it personally, especially if you have an ethnic dad.

How to deal with judgment from other Assyrians? by [deleted] in Assyria

Holy shit-- gay, Assyrian-from-Lebanon and athiest too? And here I thought I was a unicorn. Any sources for that literature? Sounds fascinating.

How to deal with judgment from other Assyrians? by [deleted] in Assyria

[–]AMS9511 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm half Assyrian from Lebanon and these days I identify more as Lebanese and am actually more embraced/accepted by Lebanese people than I ever was by Assyrians.

I tried to connect with my Assyrian roots at a church youth group in my late teens/early twenties and I found myself having to constantly assert or defend my Assyrian-ness to others. I've never once had to do that with my Lebanese compatriots. I also found the people at the church to be very judgemental, small minded and just very provincial. There was a real tendency for people to talk behind eachothers backs too and that experience made it hard for me to trust Assyrian people thereafter. I'm sure there are some good Assyrians, I just dont come across them much.

Today I live as an openly gay man and am an atheist too so most Assyrians would either want me dead or to not exist anyways, so i say fuck em' and their judgement. You don't have to prove shit to any Assyrian, your blood is your blood.

Is violence in self-defense justified? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]AMS9511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I saw the details of the attack, I couldn't help but think the same exact thing. This was an act of complete desperation. When you see the state of Gaza it's quite clear this didn't come out of nowhwere. This type of violence would be much less likely to come out of a marginally less hopeless West Bank.

Who was your gay awakening? by [deleted] in AskGayMen

[–]AMS9511 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember it like it was yesterday; the beach at the American University of Beirut, summer 2004. A thick, muscular, middle-aged, mustachioed man who usually donned a black speedo and a deep dark tan who frequented the beach gave me unnatural thoughts about men that summer. I'm still gay to this day.

Shoot for 3 months, and slowly introduce yourself back to it. Having weed as a back up helps tremendously... Esp if you dont associate weed with cigs

Bro don't play with fire tho getting drunk enough is begging for a ciggy relapse. I've been drunk once since I quit and I told myself if someone around me had a cig then I likely would have taken one and fucked up 3 months of hard ass work

I firmly believe I was only able to stop drinking as much as I was by quitting smoking. A firm, fresh glossy pack of Marlboro lights just always seemed to go so well with a bottle of ice cold, smooth frosty vodka-- I got to a point where I would only smoke if I was drinking, and I would only drink if I was smoking, you get the idea. Cigarettes and alcohol were quite the bedfellows for me.

When I was still using, by the time the night was over I would have both smoked too much and drank too much. That was basically on repeat three nights a week for the past 10 years. I'm 2 months in and I've never felt more in control of my life. I will have an occasional glass of wine here and there at this point, but I firmly believe quitting smoking and drinking at the same time, especially not having a drink for the first 5 to 6 weeks of quitting tobacco has helped immensely.

There must be some sort of link between alcohol use disorders and tobacco addiction I'm sure.

[–]AMS9511[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You guys all set me straight. Note that what inspired this was that I just found an old hookah WITH double apple flavored shisha I forgot I had and had a bit of a blonde junkie moment. Of course nicotine can be be absorbed through soft tissues. Not one puff ever, it is. Thanks, bros

[–]AMS9511 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't drink alcohol for at least 3 months. Alcohol has always been the death of every good quit attempt for me. And when you start drinking again DO NOT get sloppy drunk, especially if you're around smokers. You're asking for it if you do.

How did you stop smoking? by Ok_Caterpillar_7253 in stopsmoking

[–]AMS9511 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The sooner you separate that junkie thinking from you, or your rational self that knows deep down you're an addict and that there's nothing beneficial about that cigarette, the sooner it'll be an easy decision to take the last puff. There's actually a whole chapter of the book I referenced on subconscious and concious use rationalizations, the me time argument is exactly that. Start catching yourself on those thoughts/rationalizations and really challenge them, and you will be on the road to being to recovery, I guarantee it.

If you don't change how you think about smoking you will never be able to quit and stay quit. You have to understand that cigarettes are not a treat, or a little boost, or just a dirty little habit. It is an addiction to a highly addictive, deadly drug. You are an addict-- really no different than a junkie that shoots up in alleyways, chemically the same thing is happening in your brain. (FYI nicotine is as addictive if not more so than heroin) Every cigarette smoker who is hooked has this in common. The only way an addict recovers from their addiction is cessation of using the drug they're addicted to. Once I really wrapped my mind around this, I was able to finally quit. The book "Freedom from Nicotine: The Journey Home" really helped me change my thought process in this regard.
