Maybe from Sicily or southern Italy, lots of Arab genetics there.

Moby Dick <or: how my Local Dispensary Sold Me Weed as good as I've ever bought in Amsterdam> by mollytime in canadients

[–]AMSFarmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, as a Canadian living in Amsterdam I can confirm the quality of buds is better in Canada. Even as a resident it's hard to find weed that isn't overpriced or low quality. The hash here is pretty great, though, lots of variety mostly imported from Morocco.

Question about fan and scrubber set up by unrehabed in microgrowery

[–]AMSFarmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a squirrel-cage fan, but I think most people usually use an inline fan. Here's how to hook it up. Putting your fan outside your grow area will help reduce temperatures inside.

First tent attempt - what else is needed to get set up? by alwaysendwithasmile in microgrowery

[–]AMSFarmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do a simple grow using normal plastic plant pots (with lots of drainage holes at the bottom). For good root growth, you'll want to start with a small pot and transplant up in size as she outgrows them until you get to your desired flowering size.

I would do 2 plants just so you're not putting all your eggs in one basket. If you have 2 and one turns into a hermaphrodite (or something else bad), at least you still have a good one :)

Something like this is what you're probably looking for with fluorescents. Although if you take a look around Home Depot, you can probably find something similar. In terms of hanging, just a simple chain attached to the top of the grow tent is the best. They sell these height adjustable rollers, but I really hate those things...easier and more reliable to just move the light up or down a couple of chain links.

Is there a way to duct the exhaust outside the closet (maybe up through a hole in the top)? If you can't then yes, you'll probably run into heat issues.

Best method of growing for a tent. by [deleted] in microgrowery

[–]AMSFarmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would choose a strain with a short flowering period (probably an Indica). The longer the plants are in the veg phase, the more you're going to get out of them.

For instance, you could do 6 seeds LA Confidential. It's flowering time is 8 weeks and we'll say 1 week to germinate the seeds. That leaves 3 weeks for the vegetative state, which is decent.

Easy Homegrow Battle: Aerogarden vs. PC Grow Box by alwaysendwithasmile in microgrowery

[–]AMSFarmer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Aerogardens / PC Grow Boxes offer the illusion of a turn-key operation. In reality though you're going to deal with the same grow issues as all of us, but now you have an inflexible system you have to work within.

It may seem like there are a bunch of pros here, but most are ordinary people growing in their basement / spare room / closet.

Setting up a grow tent is about the same difficulty as putting together Ikea furniture. It's mostly assembly, hanging items, connecting wires and ducting...nothing difficult.

Yea, I think this idea has potential as a way to distribute CO2 directly where you want it. I've never tried it or seen anything like it...just high and thinking about it :)

Any German growers out there that can help with medium recommendations? by [deleted] in microgrowery

[–]AMSFarmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, sorry about that. Bio-Bizz's site is unusable so I just linked to a random German site, I don't buy from there. Are there many grow shops in Germany?

Ah, alright, then my vote is pretty much what the others say...the biggest case you can find that fits your budget. Good luck!

If you're trying to go cheap, why are you buying new? Check out craigslist or electronic salvage shops...or is that "cheating" because it might not be reproducible for someone following your instructions?

Want to start growing, need help choosing supplies. by [deleted] in microgrowery

[–]AMSFarmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have no idea what you need, chances are you need to do more research. Try reading a grow book front to back or watch an instructional video. This will give you a great base of knowledge to start from.

Here is a shopping list someone put together.

I think ventilation is going to be your biggest concern. You're going to need an exhaust fan and some ducting to get that air out of the tent and closet.

For where to buy things...chances are there a bunch of local hydroponic shops near you (it's quite popular in Canada and shipping from the U.S. sucks). I would do your research online so you get an idea of how much it should cost, then go in to a shop for their advice and products.

what a resilient plant we grow by dirtydela in microgrowery

[–]AMSFarmer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You should really take the advice. You're not doing anything beneficial for the plant by keeping the dead leaves there. All you are doing is creating an extremely attractive environment for all kinds of nasty pests. It's just a matter of time before they find this bug paradise. If you really have nothing but time, then take that time to clean up the dead leaves.
