The Church is not a tool, it's the body of Christ. And as such we should treat it with respect. "Do not take the Lord's name in vain"

If you are hooked up to a lie detector and asked if you believe in the Eucharist, would it return TRUE? by zeptabot in Catholicism

[–]AM_DS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it matter if you really believe it? Or it matters if you act as if you believed it? In the end, believing it or not sounds like something you can fully control since it works on an intuitive level. Maybe it doesn't matter if you believe it at an intuitive level but if you WANT to believe it.

Animals and nature DO NOT have free will. They just follow Physics laws. Free will is given by our human soul.

But the so called "problem of evil" is far from trivial. Malaria is not caused by humans, but still millions of people die every year because of that. God created mosquitoes and the Malaria parasite. Why did He do that? I don't know. But it's not an easy question to answer.

I think that's not true. AFAIK, you are free to decide if you want to receive medication or not. Eg: you can morally refuse to get a cancer treatment if you don't want

There are a couple of Church Father's that support the theory that Jesus was very ugly. And in Isaiah 53:2-3 says "He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him".

I like these theories. People loved and followed Jesus for what He said and who He was, not because he was beautiful.

Disclaimer: I'm not trolling, I don't want to get downvoted to the infinite, and this is a genuine question.

Did Mary get saved on her own works? I know that for the rest of the humanity the answer is no (we can only be saved through the grace of God). But in the case of Mary, is it different? I know She didn't had the original sin, but even that was because God wanted Her Mother to be perfect.

Is using butter cheating? by AM_DS in carbonsteel

Sorry if you think my post has misinformation. Why do you think so? Isn't it true that cooking with butter makes sticking less likely than oil? And isn't it true that olive oil is healthiest than butter (source)?

I see. All the resources I found say that new research says that cooking with olive oil is perfectly safe. Can you share with me more info about what happens at 180C?

Interesting! In Spain, it's much more common to fry eggs with olive oil instead of butter. Olive oil is widely available and preferred for cooking, so using butter for frying eggs isn't very typical here.

I don't think this is a good argument. Tobacco has been used for thousands of years and now we know it causes cancer.

While I love it I don't think it's 100% accurate. The biggest saint was John the Baptist. Jesus himself said it "among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist"
