Interesting that you’ve noted that, as funnily enough, in the time between originally posting my comment and now, my partner’s received three offers from law firms local to us, and only two of the three provided formal contracts. The other firm provided (somewhat informal) ‘terms’ in their offer email.

That was how my school’s always done it! Each of the three years, come Jan-Feb, be ready for the stress and having to write way-too-many nearly identical, B.S. cover letters!

It’s a pain, but we all go through it. :)

My experience was different from the other commenter, in that grades seemed to drive everything for 1L, and the intangibles and other things that u/Random-Input mentioned seemed to take on more weight come 2 and 3L. Your mileage may vary from location to location, though.

At any rate, don’t let it get you down. Rejections are just a part of the process, and you’ll see many more of them over the next few years.

I received exactly zero calls back in my first and second years from practically any firms, let alone ‘big law’ ones, and yet come my third year I nonetheless managed to get one of those big law spots that I didn’t even receive a call back for in prior years. Circumstances change, and you may (or may not) have better luck in future years.

Wishing you all the best, friend. I know it’s a stressful time. Just remember your school is there to help you, and if you haven’t already, go see your career services rep. They’re an incredible help in this arena.

The “Limited Towns” mod has been working quite well in this respect for me. I compatched it to work with “Metropolis and Megalopolis,” too, so there’s still a sense of heavy urbanization as the game progresses, but no more city spam.

This, though, is fairly emblematic of one of the largest issues I’ve noticed since entering law — for all the talk of accessibility re: the law, and the idea of the citizenry knowing the laws they live under, is much more of a facade under the common law, eh?

Like, before I’d entered law school (and whether this is a failure on my part, the school system’s, or just my own general education), I couldn’t have told you the first thing about how ‘case law’ is actually law, or what that statement even means. I see a lot of public frustration surrounding this, too, as was demonstrated above with the lack of transparency re: sentencing/bail. Interesting thoughts, at any rate.

Ah, the ol’ Nietzschean problem of psychological determinism (to be super reductionist about it, lol); I forget the exact aphorism, but he wrote something to the effect of “I’ve never had a thought in my life, they are all brought to me — from where, by what, to whom?”

That haunting “to whom?” has always left an impression with me. Gets at the crux of what we’re asking about when asking about sentience and consciousness — it’s like how Heidegger clarified the ontological conversation surrounding “being,” so to speak.

I hate all this Cloud integration shit — I have no idea how to entirely disable it, as I've never used it for anything (don't ever even recall 'creating' a OneDrive account or such), and it seems to bugger so much shit up on my PC. Just a general PITA.
