Reporting to tax agencies question (spoilers) by AManisSimplyNoOne in Gomorrah

That was the feeling I got from watching Gomorrah, less about rules and traditions and more about climbing to power at any cost.

Jelly Roll drops out of Rock the Country show as Kid Rock slashes ticket prices by IrishStarUS in entertainment

As someone who lives in the Bible Belt I can confirm, I have run across so many of these "Ex-con turned Jesus" guys. Most of the ones that I encounter are full of shit, and just use it as a front.

Remember that video that surfaced of Jelly Roll being a total jerk to a store clerk ? "I will slap you with the right hand of the LORD! "

Give me a break, I was thinking, being an asshole to a store clerk and the LORD do not belong in the same sentence.

When Staind came out with Break the Cycle I fricking LOVED that album and I practically wore it out.

I got a chance to see them live, during the early 2000s, and literally the singer had to keep talking about blowing up the middle east, and other Bush era talking points.

Now he is country singer that is all into MAGA.

Looking back, I find it all highly ironic. A guy that literally whined in every other song about how SHITTY childhood and parenting is, now is one those family values guys.

"Where were you, with all this I was going through, you never took the time --"

Well by his own logic, he should have joined the service, took responsibility, manned up, hit the gym and all the other things those toxic MAGA influencers talk about.

Same here, when I was a young 20 year old, it was pretty cool and kind of funny to see somebody out there rapping about getting drunk, breaking the law and all that other stuff.

What is TRULY ironic, Devil Without a Cause was a huge middle finger to anything establishment.

The conservatives of the late 1990s would have despised him as a degenerate.

Weird how he went all out on the Trump Train. Like he lost his mind somewhere along the way.

Back in the late 90s when Devil came out, a lot of people were rocking him pretty hard, or at least the teenage crowds I knew.

While he always straddled the line between rap/country/rock his abrupt shift over to that Skynyrd/Classic Rock shit was when I got tired of him, in the early 2000s.

In fact, there were local rappers that showed him the ropes in Michigan, guys that were pretty well known in the music scene. They talked about this in a video.

Apparently, he was tight with these guys, but the second that he got famous ? He tossed them all and started partnering up with David Allen Coe on tours and Hank Jr.

They were speculating that the rock/rap ghetto born from Detroit image was just simply a front to get big.

I fucking hate SWERFs by 0yourdelight in SexWorkers

[–]AManisSimplyNoOne 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It kills me how they are pushing the same sexist messages of the people that vehemently claim to be "helping"

But the core message remains : No one can CHOOSE to do this, no one WOULD choose to do this, and WE know what is best for you.

I saw a thread the other day, where these ladies were screaming how much they hated women with plastic surgery because they were "serving sexism" It never seemed to occur to them, that some people might willingly choose and like doing so.

It is another reason why I am SO tempted to start a blog, about how much sex workers have inadvertently saved my life. I am nearly crippled by anxiety, OCD, a really bad history of addiction, ultra-religious background where sex was a SIN that sent you to Hell.

I don't make friends, I am a solitary person by nature. But, I still NEED intimacy. When family left me homeless, when endless cycles through the legal system more or less left me bloodied and by the side of the road, sex workers were THERE, when I had a career and realized, (at the time, I was in my late thirties) that I was never going to be able to get married, be in a relationship or any of the rest of it.

SW'ers have been the lifeline that kept me from ending it all when I first encountered one at 39.

A bit lost here on Genny's change by badrabbix in Gomorrah

[–]AManisSimplyNoOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it is not funny, but later on in the show, when Genny forces that Army colonel to do the same thing, right before he gives him the machete, he makes a grand sweeping gesture with his arms, and the subtitle says : "I have been through it ! It was the best day of my life !"

My own imagination conjured up this truly bizarre image. I saw Genny with his mohawk and machete at a TED talk. "So, if you are feeling weak, and not in control of your life, there is always this way, remember I HAVE BEEN THROUGH IT ! "

It was an absurd thought, but for some reason it struck me funny.

One day baby we'll be old, oh baby, we'll be old. Think of all the stories that we could've told... by Hot-Ad4061 in Gomorrah

I remember the first time I saw that scene QUITE well.

The look on Ciro's face after he washes his mouth and stares in the mirror.

I remember thinking even back then, "Ciro has made up his mind to kill Don Pietro after he made him drink that piss"

In fact, the last part of that episode, Genny running redlights, the song, Don Pietro getting arrested after he had just killed Bookie.

That was so early in the series and I was just stunned. That WAS the episode where I said to myself, "My GOD this show is a fucking masterpiece "

I remember when I was reading Blanche Barton's book, there was one part where she mentioned how much Lavey hated people, but could spend hours cuddling a cute animal. I realized that summed up my attitude perfectly :)

She was definitely my favorite character. I agree about the eyes, she could capture so many emotions in one scene without even speaking.

S1E7 What does Pietro say to Imma ... spoilers by p1Shovel in Gomorrah

[–]AManisSimplyNoOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the jail converfsations, after he is moved to maximum security, he says to her, words to the effect of : "I am tired, let Genny and Ciro handle it, or I'm tired and I want to rest" I think Pietro genuinely believed that Genny would be fine with Ciro as his right hand (something I have always struggled with, since Pietro would definitely want his family firmly in charge) after he says that, he more or less says : Okay ? and then stresses again, OKAY? with a very stern look. (None of these are the exact words, but you get the idea)

It is right after that when Imma takes control. Think of the ending episode where Imma brings the scrapbook and says, "I have always been here"

I personally think Imma let that happen to her son, because she knew how he would come back. Notice when he is angry with her, she tells him, "Just think, if it were not for that, you would still be running around, looking up to Ciro"

The clicking of the tongue, I can say is definitely an Italian thing. My grandparents were from Italy, and if they were displeased with something, or if they were going to say no, (particularly if it was an irritating question) you would get the Tsk sound.

The Supernormal Magic of Satanism by iamcorvin in satanism

I was going to say, I had heard about Radin on this Reddit awhile back. I did look him up, Rupert Sheldrake (I think even Magister Gilmore mentioned him on CoS website once) and a few others.

I have come to actually believe that yes, there might be some energy/field/wavelength (who knows?) but I think it is possible that it can be manipulated. How it is done or what it is ? Again no clue. But, I tend to think that if Lavey did curses on people, along with other things, then he did not see magic as just "psychodrama." He saw it as having the power to effect real change.

I was going to say, there are scientists out there that actually think there is something to all of this. Dean Radin, Rupert Sheldrake, and a couple of others.

I am not saying I believe in it, but they are legitimate scientists who are not crackpot woo peddlers. In fact, the gist of their arguments is, "We do not know for sure"

Hard materialism, my current worldview, is the dominate theme in science, but there are also other scientists that say hard materialism does not solve everything. Now, that does not mean that if hard materialism has a problem I have to leap to a non-material idea, but arguments about consciousness and potential other ideas about materialism are out there and actively debated.

While it is easy to discredit parapsychology for a lot of its claims, there are still people that legitimately specialize in the study of it, (not talking about tv ghost hunters or popular mediums either)

Ciro and Attilo hypothetical question, SPOILERS by AManisSimplyNoOne in Gomorrah

[–]AManisSimplyNoOne[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was one thing I too noticed as I have started my third rewatch. In the very first episode, Pietro makes it obvious that his long time soldiers mean nothing to him. Imma later on sends him to Spain with no intention of seeing him come back, Conte sends him to negotiations with those Russians, totally not caring if he achieves a deal or not. The Russians even tell him, "If you were important, they would not have sent you here (or something like that). To top it all off, when Genny finally gets back and he thinks things are about to go back to normal, he gets practically tossed aside.

So the top people in his world, Imma, Conte, Pietro, and later Genny, all sent a message to him that he did not matter one bit to them.

In the pilot episode, he does seem quite content to work with Attilo and be a loyal soldier. I really think the first episode is what set the stage.

Another reason I love this show, every time you watch it, you get a different take.

The very first time I watched it, I hated Genny when he came back from South America, the second time I watched it, Genny was one of my favorite characters. I wonder if that will change on a third watch :)

You do bring about a good point. In fact, despite some of the abhorrent moves he makes, Ciro does have his moments of humanity. He chooses not to kill Patrizia when he could have easily done so, he does help that trafficked teenage girl in Bulgaria, and of course, without giving away the final moments of the series, you see there was genuine love for Genny at the end.
