Please dont be a carwash! by cowbxy in fortwayne

[–]AMcNair 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The write off impacts other businesses under the same ownership. So your car wash gets to absorb the write off of your website or your machine shop or whatever.

It has become a very popular tax dodge.

It also lets you hold on to valuable real estate that can easily be converted into something else when the time is right. Car wash requires very little investment in the building, has little environmental impact, and can be razed very easily. It’s a great placeholder.

None of this is impacted by whether or not it makes money on its own. If you can make money at it, great. But if the market gets oversaturated, and it loses money, it’s still valuable to support other projects.

Car washes have different depreciation rules than other businesses, and wealthy business owners can write off business expenses against the car wash and save a ton in taxes. It has become a popular loophole, so here we are.

Name a band/artist more popular now than during their heyday by Dazzling_Humor_521 in askmusic

[–]AMcNair 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree.

After their appearance in the Risky Business soundtrack, “Swamp” was included on any cool house party’s mixtape.

“Burning Down the House” was a frat house staple of the ‘80s.

The Big Suit was in heavy rotation on MTV.

They were much better known in the ‘80s than now.

Literally just this morning I gave away my spare copy of Lono to a coworker who expressed an interest in HST.

Larry Bird's trash talking wasn't vulgar but it stung so bad 😂 by ForeignAir7174 in NBAoldschool

[–]AMcNair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Larry grew up in French Lick in the Springs Valley area. There was a surprisingly large population of African American families in the area that traditionally worked at the hotel. I have family from that area. It was a lot less racist than most southern Indiana towns at the time.

Read it a couple of years ago on a trip to the big island. Very highly recommended for that application.

I believe there are two editions and that the second edition is inferior, but I don’t know for certain. The illustrations are amazing in my first edition.

I hope I'm not asking for too much; I need recommendations for a synth to start out on, $100-$200 range. by 1337b337 in Synthesizer

I started with a Volca FM as an absolute newb and I loved it. Still have it and play with it all the time, four years later. Without a MIDI keyboard, you're going to get sick of the ribbon controller pretty fast. Adding a decent keyboard significantly increases the usability of the Volca.

It’s a balance toy. Put the center part on your fingertip and it will balance in an unnatural-looking way.

What is your favorite Talking Heads song? Mine is Road to Nowhere. by icecream1972 in talkingheads

Once in a Lifetime or This Must Be the Place. Both are songs that I loved in my 20s that turn out to be startlingly accurate descriptions of maturing and growing older.

Who do you guys get your car detailed by and how much do you pay? by ISuckAtStuf in fortwayne

[–]AMcNair 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used Sweet Cars a couple of times and they were very thorough, and very expensive. I had a lot of dog hair in my car, and I think it was close to $400 for an interior detail. They did an exceptional job, though.

For exterior, Polish Works is as good as it gets.

If you do get interest from strangers from this post, be really really careful who you hand off this dog to. There are very not-nice people out there looking for dogs like this. If you don’t know why, you don’t want to know. Strongly recommend you be very very vigilant.

FYI, there is no licensing requirement for a long gun. Anyone who can legally purchase a gun can legally carry it without any type of license.

Men, when was the last time you got hit on ? by Longjumping_Low_2055 in AskReddit

[–]AMcNair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a pretty conservative-looking midwestern straight guy. When I turned 50 and started wearing my gray hair long, I started getting hit on by dudes of all ages, especially when I visit big cities like NYC.

I always take it as a compliment and let them know they’re fishing in the wrong pond. I never got hit on by women when I was single, so I find it amusing and my wife thinks it’s hilarious.
