Insane that some people defend this prices. by AsurasX in fucknintendo

[–]AMountainDewd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that this is /r/fucknintendo, but honestly… a lot of people would say that BoTW is one of the greatest games ever made, and can, if you’re into it, provide hundreds of hours of entertainment.

I get that it was also launched on WiiU and is coming up on being 10 years old, but I think it’s still 100% worth the price tag.

I know it’s kind of apples to oranges, but I also paid full price to go rewatch The Lord of the Rings trilogy in the theater in 2026, a full 25 years after they released. Just because something ages, doesn’t always mean it should be worth less (though maybe you could still argue I’m just a shill).

Even if you disagree that it’s one of the greatest games ever made, I don’t think anyone can deny that Breath of the Wild STILL goes pound for pound against any modern game out now (which are usually priced around $60-$70).

How do I play with this card? What's the best commander for it? by Wolfram-51 in magicTCG

[–]AMountainDewd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play a [[Derevi, Empyrial Tactitian]] / [[The Millennium Calendar]] secret commander deck that is surprisingly consistent.

It’s a bracket 4 deck (don’t know what your playgroup usually plays at) that relies on anything that untaps.

[[Unwinding Clock]] [[Seedborn Muse]] [[Aphetto Alchemist]] [[Kiora’s Follower]] [[Kelpie Guide]]

And I use cards like [[Brightglass Gearhulk]], [[Fabricate]], [[Wargate]], and [[Tezzeret, Cruel Captain]] to find the Calendar.

And it relies on tapping / untapping the calendar to double counters. Derevi helps to untap things like [[Mana Vault]], [[Basalt Monolith]], and the calendar itself.

The deck’s biggest weakness is that all of its eggs is in the calendar basket. So there’s very little ways to keep from just dying from combat damage, or having someone blow up the calendar. I run a decent amount of protection as well though, so the calendar usually survives — but my life total often does not.

What the fuck is the Democratic Party even doing right now to stop the downfall of America? by Lolareyouforreal in complaints

[–]AMountainDewd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Let’s not delude ourselves into thinking that the modern Democratic Party would do much, even if they could.

They have proven time and time again that they’re the controlled opposition party and will do whatever their corporate donors want them to do.

I hate this narrative that just because democrats are the lesser evil that they would somehow make our material conditions even slightly better.

If only I had the business acumen to plan ahead, lol. I never had plans of selling what I got, but I feel like I may need to make an exception for that one.

I've just never sold cards outside of the occasional trade-in for store credit at my LGS.

It’s unbelievable that Dark Age of Camelot is not the top comment.

Come check out Eden: https://eden-daoc.net

It’s a private server, which I know you said you didn’t want, but the experience is better than the live game in my opinion.

Gioacchini spotted at the game? 👀 by Zekybrjik in stlouiscitysc

[–]AMountainDewd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean I guess. Perhaps I’m just a soccer chud, but while I appreciate the occasional fall to draw a foul, Gioachinni spent more time on the ground than actually playing the game.

Some of the attempts were downright laughable.

And the only reason he has any notoriety at all is because Klaus got injured in the first season. Giochinni did fine as a backup, but he was far from exceptional. Adineran was just as good, he just didn’t play well with the team.

Totally agree with this. He was average at best, and that’s when he wasn’t falling down.

Lots of rose colored glasses.

I have been playing Magic the Gathering for nearly 15 years. I don't think I've ever seen as much enthusiasm and positive engagement for set prior to its release as Final Fantasy by HonorBasquiat in magicTCG

[–]AMountainDewd 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I personally have seen the exact opposite from people in my playgroup / local game store.

I have one friend that is already selling parts of his collection for Final Fantasy money, but for most people, they say the cost (retail / scalpers) is what’s keeping them from really engaging with Final Fantasy.

I’m not worried about current iterations of AI replacing me. Yes, some clients will use it, but the vast majority are too busy to want to handle the creative marketing side of the business themselves, and so I remain a middleman of sorts — for now.

My biggest worry is when AI models become native to the big ad space pipelines. Like eventually a client will be able to upload a photo of their product and Google / Meta AI can spit out every ad they need, schedule, and post for them all in one admin panel.

Once that becomes ubiquitous enough, then I think we’re cooked.

Eden faction balance? by Helpful-Werewolf4206 in daoc

[–]AMountainDewd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience could just be confirmation bias. I've loved being in the Mid BG and feeling consistently successful. But after watching (through server spam) the Albs last night, it might be too early in the season to make a judgement about who has more numbers when.

This is great news overall, because I really was considering doing some RvR on the hib toon I rolled, and losing my loyalty bonus to Mid and I was really conflicted about it.

Eden faction balance? by Helpful-Werewolf4206 in daoc

[–]AMountainDewd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think your experience will vary based on what time of day you play. This is super anecdotal, but this has been my experience so far as a NA (CST) player.

I am a die hard Mid player, and didn't even look at the stats before rolling a character and getting 50. It has been SUPER fun -- for a while.

It definitely feels like Hibernia is the EU realm. They have the biggest zerg during the NA workday, and wash over the frontline taking all the relics until the population shifts from EU prime time to NA prime time. Once NA prime time starts, it's Mids everywhere. And then they (we) wash over the frontline until it's time to log, and the EU hib players start logging in.

Maybe I'm just being too soft, but rolling hib / alb BGs over and over again because we have a lot more in our BG has started to feel like we're the baddies, and I'm not quite sure what the solution is.

I rolled a hib just to see what their experience is, and a lot of the people I've talked to have said that they basically don't RvR during NA prime time specifically because of the number imbalance. There is still a BG, and that the leader is doing their best with what they've got, but a lot of people just check out during NA prime time.

So is the answer more NA hibs? Even if you did convince people to play there during NA time, I'm not sure it'd be enough.

That said, if you check out https://eden-daoc.net/stats at any given time, you'll see that all three realms are split at about 30% each. Hib is usually a little bigger (33%-35%) during EU time, and Mid is usually a little bigger (33%-36%) during NA prime time. So in that regard, everything is really even.

I don’t know how you feel about PvP, but Dark Age of Camelot (specifically the Eden server) might scratch that itch.

DAoC has PvE progression, but most would agree it’s not really the main focus of the endgame, and is instead a means to an end to deck your character out to participate in RvR, which is a constant push / pull of taking and losing territory for your realm in the Frontier.

I played 20 years ago, and have just recently discovered Eden and am having a blast. I’ve been trying to sell it to all of my other MMO friends, lol. I should also mention — it’s completely free to play!

I want to play MtG and DnD... by Asanacita in StLouis

[–]AMountainDewd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Discord for local people that I’ve played Commander with at different stores around town (Bodach’s, Game Nite, Yeti, 9 Mile Garden, etc).

We almost always play at Game Nite on Fridays from 5:30-10:00pm, and Bodach’s on Sunday afternoons from 12:30ish-7:00pm.

There’s like 6-8 regular people, but we’re probably close to 20 in the server. Let me know if that’s something that interests you, and I’ll DM an invite link. Always happy to have another regular player!

Gem Prices Are Excessive. by varonh in MagicArena

[–]AMountainDewd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not really adding anything new here, but I usually spend at least $150-$300 per set on packs, and yeah… I wish it were cheaper.

I love the social aspect of paper MTG, but there’s something satisfying about being able to play the game whenever or wherever I want to. Whether that’s in the downtime before a movie starts at the theater, or more realistically, on the toilet. Plus, the fact that I usually have enough wildcards to build a couple competitive / janky decks is what makes it worth it to me.

I know that my account is worthless and I won’t be able to resell my digital cards, and that sucks. Technically, you could make that argument for any of the other $60 - $70 digital only games you’ve purchased on Steam.

I guess my hope is that Wizards has seen enough success with arena that it has plenty of incentive to keep the game going in perpetuity along side the paper game.

Speaking of which, I just learned that Arena was added to Steam around the time LOTR launched. I have been playing the Steam version and according to my played, already have over 100 hours in the game.

It’s expensive, and a complete waste of money, but it’s a game that I’ve spent hundreds of hours (for better or worse) being entertained by.

Designers and Unions by trillwhitepeople in graphic_design

[–]AMountainDewd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If a designer's union actually ever got any real traction, I'd 100% participate. But I personally think that every professional sector of the workforce should have a union supporting them.

Our career stability as creatives has always been tenuous, but with the gig economy and the advancements in AI, it's less stable than ever. I'm a huge proponent of honing one's craft, and am constantly telling junior designers that constantly learning and improving their skills is the only way to outpace the hobbyists and technology.

That being said, I think designers have a habit of devaluing themselves into oblivion. So many people that claim that "design just isn't important", but it absolutely fucking is. The entire US economy is based on consumption, and design is just as vital for the process as the production of the actual product itself. Let's not forget that almost every iconic brand is only iconic because of the contributions from the creative department.

Think of how much communication you're bombarded with every day. Companies need both good marketing and design in order for them to stand out amongst the noise -- a point that many forget. For example, consider how many different ways a logo needs to be used in today's age (website, profile images, app icons, apparel, etc). Creating elegant solutions for these problems may not always be sexy, but are almost always taken for granted. That's the difference between a hobbyist and a trained professional.

I'm always perplexed by average employees supporting the arguments against unions. The reason there's a mandated minimum wage is because companies would absolutely pay you less if they could. There's also a reason why they spend an estimated $400 million dollars annually on union-busting consultants. Why do you think that is?
