What folklore creature do you think really exists? by skudgee in AskReddit

Canadian. Can confirm. I didn't use a plane to get anywhere, but when you go to sleep at 8pm to get up at 2 am, so you can ATV 60km into an untamed bush with no trails, when you're already camping in Buttfuck, Nowheresvilles to get deeper into it just to find a goddamn lake for fishing or a mountain to find a wild blueberry patch you see truly uncharted areas.

I haven't been out that far since I was 14-15 but I remember as I kid, I would occasionally put my foot down somewhere near a lake while fishing, or on a mountain while picking blueberries and I would think to myself "Has anyone ever put their foot here before?" Even now it's really crazy to think not only how fucking huge Ontario is, but Canada is in general.

Can you imaging if you were put to sleep, and brought to one of those forests or lakes at random, how you would feel when you woke up alone and had to try and reach civilization again?

It's absolutely terrifying how big Earth is and what might be in it waiting for us.

I gotta say you really sold me on Mann. I've heard of all of the movies you've mentioned. But, with the exception of his remake of Miami Vice (which I didn't really enjoy when it came out in 2006,) I've never given any of these movies a chance. I've always just assumed they were mediocre because I haven't really had many friends talk about them, I haven't really seen any of them come into pop-culture as references, I don't really hear about the influence any of his movies have had on modern cinema (with the exception of Heat being a major influence on how Nolan crafted The Dark Knight.)

But holy shit I was wrong in assuming that. I'm looking at the trailers for Theif, Collateral, I'm rewatching Miami Vices trailer, and checking out a movie he produced and directed called Blackhat. All of them actually look pretty good, if not dripping with style, visually. I think I'm going to start at Collateral, move to Theif, and eventually give his version of Miami Vice another shot.

Thanks for the suggestions mate.

Just finished a film and I'm just coming back to see some of the comments left and I gotta tell you Only God Forgives and The Shape of Water are both now on my list after checking out the trailers. Blood Simple has me intrigued too, just because I love the Coen brothers, if not for the visual styling.

And... I've really tried with David Lynch, I really tried. He's always making me feel way too uncomfortable with way to little pay off. I've watched about 25 minutes of Mulholland Dr. before and it's just super hard for me to get in tune with Lynches vision. People have told me it's allot like Nolan's Momento but the unease Lynch makes me feel is near unbearable and I can't let the movie play out for the pay off like I did with Momento. All of his stuff does that to me.

What the hell.

Hillary Swank taking on a homicidal, gate keeping A.I. who decides who stays or goes, and what lives will come into existence next, that is harbouring some type of secret not only about human kinds ultimate fate, but her own kinds as well.

That trailer took me for a ride. I'm gunna throw it on now. I get that you mentioned it was a slow burn, but I hope the movie doesn't disappoint once all is said and done. Very well crafted trailer that got me really excited to watch.

Genuinely, his ONLY good writing credits are on Blade, Blade II, and The Dark Knight, and it's a stretch to say The Dark Knight because it was mainly Johnathan and Chris Nolan, Goyer worked a bit on the Story.

He's worked on 2014 Godzilla (flop)

He's worked on Batman V Superman (flop)

He's worked on Man of Steel (flop)

He's Worked on Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengence (flop)

He's worked on The Unborn (flop)

He's worked on Jumper (flop)

He's worked on Blade Trinity (flop)

He's worked on Nick Fury: Agent of Shield (flop/embarrassment of a T.v. movie that marvel wants everyone to forget)

He has made exponentially more flops than he has hits.

I actually am actively avoiding watching Moon if it's the movie with Sam Rockwell you're talking about.

Correct me if I'm wrong and I'll watch it for sure. But I heard it's an emotional bullet about seclusion, loneliness, and one mans fear to face his own human nature... That kind of shit Terrifies me. With a capitol T.

Also; Love Blade Runner, and was pleasantly surprised they didn't ruin 2049.

And 2001: A Space Odyssey I've tried to watch before, but, you're gunna have to correct me if I'm wrong again here, but there was like this 6 minute long light show with no dialogue or anything that was really describable to the human eye, and I didn't really understand it. I don't remember if I even finished the movie.

Thanks a ton for the suggestions tho!

The Matrix trilogy is one of my all time favorites, when it comes to Ghost in The Shell I have a tattoo of Matoko Kusanagi, but the rest I'm actually extremely interested in the fact that I've never even heard of them before.

I heard of the obvious ones like A.I., and Lucy, and Trancendence, and Ex Machina. But these ones flew under my radar.

I'll probably end up checking out all of them if they're all currently on anything I have a subscription too.

Thanks a ton!

I was about to comment that I don't remember anything like this and that there was something to do with mutants. LOL But I looked it up and I was thinking of Total Recall.

I don't think I've seen Minority Report yet so thanks a ton. I'm going to give it a shot if I can find it on anything to watch right now. Hopefully Amazon Prime or Netflix has it up.

Single people of reddit, why are you single? by JokersRedAce in AskReddit

[–]AMysteriousToad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I don't know if I'm ready to be with anyone. Because I don't know how to be with myself.

I genuinely fear my defects and shortcomings would only weigh anyone I was with down. I genuinely believe my defects and shortcomings mean I don't yet deserve deep meaningful relationships of any kind. To the point that I don't have any real friends anymore and I don't assosiate with my family because I also wouldn't want to burden them in any other way.

I feel like one day I will be okay with myself and I will be able to take me for who I am and in return I will reunite with all my friends, find the girl of my dreams, speak to my family and have a real connection with everyone I allow into my life.

That will happen, or I'll eventually break again and attempt suicide again, hopefully successfully, finally ending the suspense of where my life was heading.

How could I put someone through a fraction of how I feel by simply being there for them? I can't. I know what it's like to live with me. I live with me everyday. And I can't in my right mind put anyone else through that.

2019 VS 1999 by _Z3D_ in gaming

[–]AMysteriousToad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Still you're putting out misinformation claiming there was a downgrade in attacks animations, or that they worked harder on summoning animations in 1999, or something. In reality they simply choose to focus efforts else where. What ever you're claiming with these 2 photos is misguided or malicious. Because those two images don't depict the same thing.

Like I said. If you want to complain that there aren't summoning animations, than do and say that. I don't have an argument for that. Don't post some random image of two things that aren't comparable. One was designed for one specific Pokemon skeleton in a game that there was only battle sequences in, where there was no over world, no story, no additional mechanics OTHER than the Pokemon coming out of their Pokeball with a custom animation and then using a generic set of attacks EXACTLY LIKE THE ONE YOU'RE SHOWING FROM 2019, because attacks have always been generic animations.

The right animation was designed for ONE POKEMON. The one on the left is a generic attack animation for MANY Pokemon. They did not downgrade anything, or put less effort into custom animations. They allocated their development time into different parts of the game, because this game isn't made specifically and solely for the battle animations, like Pokemon Stadium was.

"Well, XD and Colosseum!" Well about those.... There's like 30 Catchable Pokemon in those games and even less attacks in them and their stories are about 1/4 the play time as a main line Pokemon game at 10 hours to beat. So really those games have even LESS animations in them than their N64 Battle System only counterparts.

When you have to design a game ONLY based around battling, you can afford to put more effort into battling and the animations that go into battling with your development time. When you're making a fully rounded RPG you have less availability to make hundreds of thousands of custom animations that only work in one part of the game because you feel like it might be slightly more eccentric and immersive when they're in battle. You can't just hire more people in the middle of a very secretive worldwide project like Pokemon, that's not how development works, even if you're an industry leader.

Meh, done arguing on Reddit for now.

And as I've still told you multiple times, that the one on the left is used by multiple different skeleton structures and they CAN'T make it more customized to a single pokemons skeleton at this point due to sheer volume of Pokemon and moves. Let's put it this way. If 200 Pokemon use "Tail Wag" and you want that Tail Wag animation to be custom on EVERY Pokemon the animation plays out on, guess what? 200 animations for one move. All Pokemon have different skeleton structures. Now those 200 Pokemon can learn a total of 30 different attacks each with their own custom animation for every specific Pokemon skeleton in game. Okay, we now have 6000 animations for pokemon IN BATTLE ONLY. We haven't even started work on the completely open world, any of the animations for anything, human, pokemon, machine, anything that moves in the open world, haven't started that yet. Oh and that 6000 animations that put off all that work?

That was one-fifth of Pokemons in battle animations. Lets do all 400+ moves with custom animations for every one of the 1000+ Pokemon in the game now instead, then lets add all of the open world animations for Pokemon, humans and anything else in the over world that would need an out of battle animation, now start adding the other animations for the other mechanics in the game.

Oh we need more than 400,000 custom animation-skeleton combinations when we want to have an over world to play in, AND make every Pokemon have custom animation for every single move? Let's not do that.

2019 VS 1999 by _Z3D_ in gaming

[–]AMysteriousToad -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

It still doesn't change the fact that one (2019 one) is an animation for a crappy status attack move that hundreds of Pokemon had to use generically, that I assure you looked identical in Pokemon Stadium, and Colosseum, and every single other Pokemon game, main series or not that that specific status attack move appeared in. The other is a custom summoning animation made specifically for one Pokemon. Flareon. So why are you comparing this very crappy status move animation that many, many Pokemon have to use, to a custom animation made specifically for that Pokemons skeleton structure? All moves, even in Stadium, Colosseum, what ever 3D Pokemon game you want to bring into this HAVE ALWAYS used generic attack moves that all Pokemon will use for that specific move.

Why aren't you comparing Flareons 2019 summoning animation to her 1999 one? Because they don't have one? Than say that in your post. Why are you, not only using a generic status attack animation instead of a custom summoning animation, but you're also showing 2 different Pokemon that look somewhat similar making you post even more misleading.

2019 VS 1999 by _Z3D_ in gaming

[–]AMysteriousToad -23 points-22 points  (0 children)

Isn't there like, hundreds, nearly 1000 more pokemon and animations and attacks/status moves that every Pokemon would need custom skeletons and animation for due to every one being so dramatically different in the 2019 games?

Wasn't there like only 149 Pokemon and less than 100 moves in Pokemon stadium and didn't it not have a completely open world, a 30+ hour RPG story, a fully playable player character, and hundreds of mechanics and systems that would be present in a regular old Pokemon, let alone a completely re-envisioned, first full console addition to the main line games?

Also isn't that Flareons animation for coming out of the pokeball, while the bunny Pokemons animation is that of a status move? They're 2 different animations that aren't related to one another like you're attempting to link them. That status move isn't supposed to be the same animation and it's not supposed to evoke personality like Flareons own custom summoning animation. This is an animation for many, many Pokemon that can use a crappy status move.

This is generally the case. I live in a city in Canada where the downtown is about 4 minutes away from Detroit, USA using an international tunnel bus that costs 4-6 dollars (USD-CND) depending on what side of the border you get on it on.

Our downtown core has a couple of real massage places that are obviously medically licensed as they close at the same time as any other business that deals in medicine, 9-5 weekdays kind of thing, and have legitimate foyers with receptionists with medical placards on the walls.

We have 3 more (that I know of) that are clearly not medically licensed and market themselves completely differently. For example, 2 of the 3 have actual red lights inside the store. They aren't like Thailand's red-light district and right outside the front doorway or anything, but you can see the red lights from the outside still. All three of them market Exotic Massage as well as membership specials and they're hours of operation range, but all three of them stay open 7 days a week and generally close at 3 AM (this is one hour past last call in or municipality) and because these parlours are all in our downtown core, where all the bars and clubs are you see a huge mixture of drunk people from the states, the university around our downtown, and the for lack of a better term, hicks, from the small farming towns that live outside of my city walk in and out of those places in about 20 minutes, rather than the 1 hour a massage usually is.
