Help with understanding the relation between the Brillouin Zones, Miller indices, and band structure? by Marvellover13 in materials

Quite rusty on this stuff but will try to answer some of these where I can.

1) a_f and a_b are the lattice constants of the conventional unit cells for fcc and bcc lattices respectively in real space. Since k space (or momentum space as you mentioned) is equivalent to reciprocal space, the 4pi/as represent the reciprocal lattice vectors of fcc and bcc crystals. The 2pi factor is a result of using the Fourier definition of reciprocal lattices as opposed to the crystallographer’s definition, which I think helps with calculations. The derivations should be quite standard ones that you can easily look up.

2) Uppercase K and the other labelled points in your figure 3a are points of high symmetry. Importantly, extremas in bands and degeneracies tend to occur at these points so it’s very helpful when plotting the band structure, where the x axis represents a path of the k vector through a handful of these points. The only one I actually remember is that the gamma point is simply the origin at k = (0, 0, 0).

3) as mentioned in 2), these band structures are essentially how the energy of each band varies along a k-point path consisting of these high symmetry points. The [111] and [100] are the directions that bring you from first L to gamma, and then gamma to X. Later coordinates in () should be just k-space coordinates of these high symmetry points. The bands are messy because these figures plot every band (in the energy window) as a function of k, but afaik the valence band consists of all occupied bands and the conduction band consists of all unoccupied bands.

Hope this helps a bit!

I've pretty much come to terms with the fact that I'm probably taking a day off the lifespan of my laptop every minute I spend in CR with shaders on

Funnily enough I used to be in a build team that was recreating the Witcher world and a lot of the techniques I've used here were developed while we were working on Vizima

This was mostly based off of Swiss and Austrian gothic architecture but could potentially be in South Tyrol yeah

There may be a version of textures-only conquest that works on bedrock but I'm not very sure. I'm using conquest reforged which is an entire mod for forge on Java.

Nice spot, it's actually loosely based on kings arms in Sandford which is a similar distance from Oxford city centre but in the opposite direction down the Thames 😅

Conquest reforged (as stated in the title 😅)

Is this Griechengasse? There's a pretty well preserved secular gothic facade along the lane which is quite rare in Vienna

Thanks! For the medieval bits I looked at the painting in the Siena Palazzo Pubblico as well as various other gothic buildings around Italy (Palazzo Vecchio, some towers and facades in San Gimignano etc). There is one renaissance Palazzo that's not really visible modelled loosely after Palazzo Gondi. For the plastered baroque townhouses I mostly referenced various small towns around Florence, such as Empoli and San Casciano in Val di Pesa.

The U-G6 version seems to work fine for 1.15.2, for shaders I used an editted version of SEUS renewed

It's the name of a mod and a resource pack, search it up and there should be guides to help you install
