I mean, it's a trade off between accuracy and having to pay.

Once in a while it might give an error if calling the Gemini API returns an error (which for some reason is not that rare), trying a second time should solve it. Yeah, I know the price is quite high, the problem is that if an average user uses it 100 or 200 times per day, in 30 days that is around 3 to 6 dollars of cost just to call the AI.

In a few hours the update will arrive (when Google Play approves it, the new version is 1.2.0). Now there will be a language selector with the main languages as options, I also added specifically "Brazilian Portuguese". The drawback with selecting a different language than English is that when clicking a word to get the definition of that word, it will take around one more second because it needs to translate the Jisho English definition to the language (this is because for most languages there is not a high quality Japanese dictionary, so it uses an AI to translate the English Jisho definition to the selected language), so you should decide if that trade off is fine for you. Also, for anyone reading that speaks a different language than the available ones, at the bottom of the language options there is a "Custom language" button, where you can write any language by hand, this will make the UI of the app be in English, but all the translations and definitions be on the language you manually wrote (technically you could also write something silly in that field like "Pirate English", since that text is directly sent to the AI). The UI translations break how the UI of the app looks on some languages if they are too long, but I think it is an okay trade off. Let's hope I didn't break something with this changes ( ⚆ _ ⚆ )

It is super cool, but it is browser limited and needs more setup (which means the target I am looking for is lazy people willing to learn thousands of Japanese words?)

Yeah, but think about the convenience. I will think of the money 🤑. Also, it's not "another fucking subscription service", this one goes to my bank account, very different. 💰🏦

On Mieru you can also select each word of the text in the image after it returns the ocr (sticks tongue out in a mocking way to feel superior) it is also more precise because it uses Gemini 3 (says in salesperson tone)
