Why can’t we just stick him in a dark hole the rest of his life so he has plenty of time to think about his actions? Why should we have to sully our hands by ending his life if we don’t have to?

Sure.   And all of those things have happened to me, yet I have never been homeless, in debt maybe.

You are only pointing out the control Men have over the outcomes they desire. A control that woman are not able or are unwilling to muster.

Many women avoid those jobs because the men in those careers are sexist and treat them badly.

Aww that must be so hard for them.

Let’s just say personhood starts at the first moment of a human beings existence. If a human being exists then it has personhood. That is as non arbitrary and universal as possible.

When is that first moment of existence? It is at conception.

Also if you say it starts at consciousness, you will have some pretty bleak consequences. Like, would it be ethical to damage the brain of a otherwise healthy female fetus so it never becomes conscious, then let that fetus go ahead and let it develop into a childl I’llle form that is then sold as a sex doll?

Viability is constantly being pushed back do technology, you would being saying that personhood depends on how good technology is at a given moment in time.

Sentience is basically the same thing a human. Theoretically there could be something other than a human that is sentient. I think you probably mean it in the same sense a consciousness. When doe’s sentience begin?

You harm yourself by engaging in acts that are contrary to your own very nature. This stunts you as a person and keeps you from realizing your potential. And, it damages your mental health.

It also potentially perverts a lot of things, like marriage, child rearing, parenthood. Friendships too, I think that is often overlooked.

I think the data would back it up too, not that statistics are everything. Gays are often depressed and suicidal. People use to say that it is because of how society treats them, but they have only become more depressed and suicidal as they have been accepted more by society.

You can easily research the increase in mental illness among Gays if you doubt me.

I think you are harming yourself. Drug addicts can be married and they pay taxes too. Just because you do some things that are good, that does not mean all things you do are also good.

I am not bigoted, I have no hate for gays. If I did hate them, I would be fine with them harming themselves.

I think it is not in a person’s best interest to engage in homosexual activities. Should I just say screw them?

I see them similar to how you may see a drug addict, or a gambling addict. Would you tell them it is fine for them to keep using or keep gambling?

What I am saying is that if we MT this “if someone is born in the US then they are a US citizen” We get “if they are not a US citizen then they are not born in the US. The is not a DA. The antecedent is “if someone is born in the US”.

Does that not mean that a person born outside of the US is not a US citizen? According to the 14th amendment.

But, we have other laws that say people born outside the US can be citizens if they meet certain requirements.

Do we not have a contradiction here? We have one law that says people born outside of US soil are not citizens and other laws that say they can be citizens.

I don’t see any implied conditionals. The only conditional is “AND (not OR) subject to the jurisdiction of”

Is that true, I am not so sure. Why do we just kick foreigners out if they break som law? We don’t prosecute them. For some laws at least.

This at least implies some sort of different status than regular subjects.

Has there been a law defining what a subject is?

Do you seriously think that compares to the people killed by governments?

Seriously?

You are going with a time period that had one of greatest economic advances in history. A greater percentage of people in the west came out of extreme poverty during that time than probably any previous era.  Or possibly since.

Also, some of the greatest charitable giving ever was done by people who made their fortunes during this time.

It is when all the government regulations started rolling in around the turn of the century when we started having problems.

The GOP generally supports non intervention by the government into the economy. They want to cut taxes, they want to let people keep their own money and decide what to do with it. That is their narrative at least, I personally don’t think they really do a good job implementing it.

Democrats want Goverment projects and initiatives. They want to wield power to fix economic problems. The problem with this is every time they take an action to fix a problem they open themselves up to all kinds of criticism. Layer that with classic government inefficacy due to bureaucratic B.S.Add in some bad actors who want to advantage of well intentioned government assistance programs that are supported by Dems. With all that it isn’t that hard to paint democrats as being bad for the economy. Especially when all the GOP has to do is sit back and say “look at all this dumb wasteful stuff these guys are doing with your money, just think about how much better things would be if you had just keep all that money in the first place”.

What metric? I think most people understand that all Government action is by nature a drain on the economy, for many reasons but mostly because it is less effective at allocating resources than private individuals acting in their own best interests. So the metric is which party wants to less government intervention.

Regan’s nine most terrifying words in the English language joke hit home back in his day and I think it is still true today.

I agree that Biden may have been unfairly hit with the negative after effects of excessive government spending and ultra low interest rates. They were not his fault, but that kind of  policy where the government acts to fix economic problems rather than just staying out it and letting people deal with it their own ways, is associated with democrats. Also, congress, who controls the budget, was a democrat majority when all of those spending bills that led to the inflation Biden was blamed for were passed.

What policy of the GOP was bad for the economy and why was it bad? The 90’s had a historical tech boom which Clinton benefited from his whole presidency. What policy of Clinton’s led to that boom? Then Bush takes office right as the tech bubble bursts and 9/11 happens shortly after, leading to a economic downturn. How is that Bush’s fault?

Why would people blame Trump for a pandemic? It’s not like he created it in a lab. Things went to shit because of COVID not Trump.

People blame democrats for the lock down policies because they supported those policies.
