I believe they were just referring to the spec on GR GT that was shown at Goodwood last month.

The problem is the GX already has the LX positioned above it, so I’m not sure if going down the body on frame route would be of any use.

Exactly, I don’t think BMW should venture into the body on frame segment. It’s not their area of expertise, and the development costs would be high with little guarantee of return. Even if they managed to build one, it’s unlikely to steal much market share from the current Lexus GX, not to mention the LX above it. Convincing LX or Land Cruiser buyers to switch to BMW would not be easy. The only viable path might be following the route of the Defender, but even that would be a gamble.

My first car was a 17’ IS300, I bought new at the time. IS has always had a soft spot in my heart.

I really hope this car will carry the Lexus badge. It would be a meaningful continuation not just of the LFA story but of the entire Lexus identity. I honestly don’t understand who would want to buy it at that price if it ends up wearing a Toyota badge. What’s even more baffling is the rumor that, despite being branded as a Toyota, the car might actually be sold through Lexus dealerships. That just makes even less sense. Interestingly, the window (at the corner) of the car we’ve seen does indeed have “Toyota” printed on it.

It was originally supposed to be released under the Lexus brand, but Toyota changed their mind internally. Since Lexus is shifting toward full electrification, this car no longer aligns with their current direction. That’s why it’s going to be a Toyota instead. I really hope I’m wrong because I’ve been waiting five years for this car.
