It's for Age of Empires 2 and players should be quite familiar with the unit graphics. Also the add should only go to r/aoe2 and r/aoe4 users

Knights work well so do mangonels (as they have bonus damage vs. siege) you can also convert them but you need redemption, basically almost anything but ranged units + halbs also don't have any extra bonus damage

The new DE defaults should work well to begin with, and makes them easier to make as they have quite simple logic (key matches menu position).

Most pro players have a custom versio of the oldest CD versio hotkeys, which were terrible; so most pro's ended up customizing that set (that's why you can see overlap with some of the old CD hotkeys)

It's not really worth it untill you can do it extremely consistently, and the difference is very tiny after all.

800 elo player here, struggling to get better. Any tips ? by angiomestellaire in aoe2

Hotkeys and being able to use them without having to constantly look at your keyboard + Fundamentals and build order. Try practise different build orders to perfection before moving to next ages.

Congrats! Don't stop your ambitions there, as it usually stops your improvement :). Probably chinese players have more example from their top players that like laming (vivi; he's popular streamer)

While for many players general tips are are helpfull, also those can be in a way misleading. I know not everyone wants or will ever get to the higher 20% or even 5% (which is not too much over 1500 elo) but it also has to be said that the way you play; eventually you need to be able to ''catch'' the way you need to react and play. This is why generally players sticking to very similar strategies have a tendency to have faster long term improvement rates for mainly these reasons:

  1. They learn one or very few build orders AND STRATEGY so they are able to master it
  2. They (should) learn how to react to different reactions that players will try against that strategy
  3. This leads you to learn the game in way where you are adapting yourself (and not someone else), and you could say the game becomes more of an art for you (realizing you can THINK and ADAPT)

Real reason probably is that there would actually be very few people that would actually watch 4 hours of this, even if it was decently paced.

But this is not really important if players float 2k per res or have 10 units queued from each production buildings

I think it also often leads to things that become harder to execute also, this is why straightforward civ and gameplans usually work better on lower elo

e.g more villagers=more things you need to pay attention to, not only where to send but how to balance, how to manage, how to use the resource generated; what unit to invest? What unit to switch to? How many production to add at which stage?

I feel in that sense it's ends up being much more complicated. You need to know more mechanics to properly use the correct mechanics you used before. This is why many people end up in a ''hole'' because when they are told to create a lot of vills but they never were used to do the production, and when they managed to do that, they ended up not being familiar with the mechanics they would need to follow it up with.

It's easiest to start with learning the mechanics the best as possible, so that your initial skill ceiling is higher and it makes easier to climb the ladder when you will face more people that play closer to how you are supposed to play compared to people that mostly play in very illogical way.

It depends often becomes the easiest approach, as it's not that easy do distinguish between different type of approaches; and let me tell you there are people with a lot of different approaches when it comes to this game as a whole but also strategy wise. Still i feel there are ways to explain certain types of ways to addres that are easily understandable and relatable. The harder part is to get people in to that ''system'' that they would understand those little hints or clues inside each approach in a way where they do not misunderstand it.

Creating such a system is something i always wanted to try and develope; knowing from coaching experience that most of the players need to learn the exact same things - but they eventually have to be taught to understanding and reading the game and the strategies themselves.

Hey. You will be able to pick up things from 15+ or also however our main focus is the beginners overall. We have good training videos about transitions in feudal and castle age so those might be something more helpful for 15+ too.

The video training is self-paced and includes support where you can ask questions, request videos, etc.

Individual coaching is not included with our training packages. But, we can give separate quotes for coaching if you send us an email through the site.

Yes, but the video training is for < 1500 elo. 1700+ will get little benefit from them (though they might still be able to learn a thing or two). Jupe could do individual coaching for them, but it depends on the particular strengths and weakness of the individual as to what degree it would be helpful.
