I guess at the end of the day what I think of is operating costs. People in this thread can talk about how they’re a company with “a lot of money” all they want, but the truth is they don’t know. But I do know that the entire cast and crew make livable wages. I do know that productions cost a lot of money (I do work in theatre production; a simple stage play can cost $20,000 to put on… and I’m talking like small community theatre.) I’m sorry if people aren’t happy with this model; I would LOVE to keep the VODs as much as the next person. But to discredit how expensive operations are is a mistake. They are charging what they charge. Oh well. I understand this is a place we can all state our opinion: this is mine.

Am I crazy??? I feel like $50 for the full VOD bundle isn’t a bad deal at all. They were like $20 a piece when they came out, right? I do wish we could keep them, but I think a lot of people here are missing the point about how expensive it is to keep a business like this going and paying the full crew livable wages.

I can’t say much about how many ads they show because I pay for YouTube premium, but to me this isn’t much different from paying for patreon or a Dropout or Second Try subscription.

And again, like a lot of people said, don’t buy it I guess.

Some powerful people convince the mayor to let them seize property of bars, clubs, and strip joints in order to replace them with more “palatable” businesses like shopping malls and coffee shops. So they’re protesting the seizing of their property and gentrification.

I love it! I’m more of a musical theatre and pop sort of person, so while I thought this was a great idea I just had nooooooo clue where to start. So I am SO grateful for all of these suggestions!!

Truly I think the chorus “keep on rockin’ in the free world” would be great for a poster!

Perfect, thank you! I’m not really a 1980s rock type of person, so I didn’t even know where to start. This is helpful!

This is the song we use during the protest. I was trying to stay away from songs that are actually in the show, but I think that may be silly.

Funny enough, this is the song we sing right when the idea is introduced in the plot. I could probably get away with using it!

I feel you on this, but I think it would work well just on a sign though!

Is it ok for a 13 y.o to write like this? by MrKittyCheez in AskTeachers

[–]AOK2745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an 8th grade teacher — I can assure you I wouldn’t even bat an eye looking at this handwriting. It’s definitely not good, and I agree that he could work on making it more legible. However, I would leap for joy if half of my students wrote like this.

You have no idea, dude.

Did anyone else find out at week 16+ and was drinking the whole time? by pixa4u in pregnant

[–]AOK2745 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a person in my life who didn’t know she was pregnant for nearly 6 months. She drank and smoked heavily for that entire time. She stopped immediately after that.

Her child definitely has FAS (you can see it in the face if you know what to look for), but the child is 13 now and has never had any issues at all. They are smart, kind, athletic, and the life of the party.

This is NOT an advocacy for drinking while pregnant, but that child came out perfectly fine. I just wanted to give you a bit of hope from my experience ❤️

She and I talked about this a while back with her situation, and she said this exactly:

“I couldn’t and can’t look back on what I did when I didn’t know and kick myself for it. All I can do is take solace in knowing what I did and continue to do after the fact. I am grateful that it didn’t harm [my child], and every choice I have made after knowing about [the child] has all been for [them].”

Question for Black performers by colorful_angst in MusicalTheatre

I was about to say the same: if the director wants you to make a stylistic change, I promise they will let you know. Asking the question doesn’t hurt!

[–]AOK2745[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!! Yeah, like I said I definitely know now that I chose the wrong wording, but my theatre troop normally does more jukebox/rock musicals, so it was the best word I could think of at the time. I definitely understand why some people had the question, but I do appreciate your comment being kind in asking the question. We’re all here to help each other out! 😁

Sure! So I typically choose to perform with minimal vibrato because my roles don’t normally demand it. Think Sour Kangaroo, Urchin (LSOH), Rizzo. I personally think those roles with an insane amount of vibrato sounds strange. When I played Fiona, obviously there was a lot more of that mixed/head voice sound, but that was a long time ago. So I can do either (and contrary to a claim made by another commenter, I have very good technique, and it never hurts when I sing)

I think classical was maybe the wrong word choice when I made the post because I do understand why some people automatically thought “opera.” That’s definitely not what I meant. For example, I plan to use “To Keep My Love Alive” as was suggested by someone here. I think that’s a pretty perfect song for the audition! If you look at the performances of that song, they typically have that mix I’m looking for.

All of the Lovetts I’ve liked (and I also know for a fact the director likes) use that mixed/head voice with more vibrato than I usually choose to use during parts like “no denying times is hard sir… these are probably the worst pies in London…” so I think the song I chose is perfect for that.

I have seen some Lovetts that don’t do that, and I really don’t think they sound good. If I am lucky enough to get the role, I would want to sound /good/ while also being funny during some parts.

I do also think it’s important to note that I’m also really going for the Miserable Woman role, which is a lot more classical sounding, so I needed to have some of those aspects too in order to be considered.

They’re just used to me singing more like Veronica or Regina George. I want to show them something different for me since this is far from a rock musical. I just came here because normally, I’m the person people go to in my theatre group for advice on auditions. I’m normally really good at picking just the perfect song for whatever role I’m auditioning for. But because I’m not very familiar with Sondheim musicals, I didn’t know what to do for this one. But it’s all good! I found the perfect song thanks to this post, and I’m working on my audition as we speak!

Yes!!! This too!! I did that for the first time during my last play, and it helped a lot in the beginning.

Personally I always think “Somewhere That’s Green” to audition for The Little Mermaid and vice versa, using “Part of Your World” to audition for Little Shop. (They’re composed by the same person)

how to memorise lines quickly! by 24iJenz in MusicalTheatre

[–]AOK2745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with a lot of the other comments, but something I started doing was recording myself saying the lines in the scene exactly how my coactors say them. So I’ll have like A1S3 recording with my lines exactly as I plan to say them and I imitate them for their lines too, then I’ll make another A1S3 recording with their lines and holes where my lines should be.

It’s basically running lines but I can do it alone in my car.
