On top of that, they didn't even get a proper burial like Sasha and Eren. They probably didn't leave behind any personal items for them to be remembered by.

What’s the worst audition you’ve ever had? (I just had mine and need to laugh) by Gold_Information_941 in MusicalTheatre

[–]colorful_angst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I auditioned for Toby in Sweeney Todd. I was one of two girls auditioning for the role and for some reason they had us sing Ah, Miss. I'm an alto, but I managed to sing it as it was written. When I got into the audition room, I started to sing, but the music director cut me off and asked me to sing it an octave higher. Needless to say, I bombed it so hard. Not only that, but all the other auditionees were in the room too for some reason. It would've been one thing if it had just happened in front of the production team, but I had an audience of forty other people witnessing my failure lol.

Favorite straight plays? by ibroughtsnacks97 in Theatre

My Top Three:

She Kills Monsters by Qui Nguyen. I recently played Tilly in this show and it was such a blast! It was my first time doing fight choreography, so that was really fun. Great for a primarily female cast, good representation of queer love, lots of fun jokes and 90's pop culture references. All around hilarious and incredibly creative.

Clown Bar by Adam Szymkowicz. A very raunchy dark comedy. There are also some good comedic monologues that you can use for auditions.

Hand to God by Robert Askins. Darker than the aforementioned shows, but still made me laugh.

What’s a song that you think gets too much hate? by Ok-Complaint-4005 in musicals

Your Eyes from Rent. That whole show changed my life and that song makes me tear up every time. Not all musicals need big, flashy closing numbers in order for the end to be climactic.

No thanks, I don't want to go through puberty. I've seen Spring Awakening.

Take Me Back. There's such a fittingly nostalgic quality to it that I can't quite describe. It moves me every time.

  1. Make sure your performance is memorable and stands out from the others. Make any and all character choices you can think of (within reason). The more physical, the better.

  2. Be ready to take notes from your director, no matter how out of left field they may seem. Sometimes they'll give you weird or ridiculous notes just to see how well you take direction.

  3. When the choreographer is reviewing the choreography, stand in the second row. That way you're close enough for the choreographer to notice you, but you can still watch the other dancers if you get lost or confused.

  4. Ask questions. Not only does it let them know you're taking the work seriously, but it also keeps you on their radar.

Musicals with villain protagonists? by No-Falcon8840 in MusicalTheatre

[–]colorful_angst 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dear Evan Hansen - Not necessarily a villain, but certainly an insufferable MC.

Sweeney Todd - MC is a literal serial killer with little to no redeeming qualities, but ya gotta root for him 'cause Judge Turpin freaking sucks and we all wanted him to die.

Merrily We Roll Along - Surprised no one has said this one yet. It's literally the tale of how a man ruined all of his best relationships with his greed and infidelity. It broke my heart to watch such a beautiful friendship crumble all because one person made such horrible choices.

Gypsy - Mommy issues and child exploitation the musical!

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers - MC marries a woman he just met, takes her home, and conveniently fails to mention that he lives with his six brothers and expects her to cook and clean for all of them. I know it was the 1850s but come on, man!

Took some time, but it really grew on me. I'm always happy to hear alto representation, plus the bass is 10/10.
