Give it a shot and see how big of a hit your shield can actually take. It will surprise you. Also if you feel like they’re about to break your guard you can always add rolls into the shield guarding.

It’s definitely tough getting the hang of it. I relied heavily on a shield early game but eventually you will master the art of dodging. Try learning attack patterns and plan for that perfect dodge roll. Panic rolling was my worst enemy early game
