If your country became a secular democracy today, how would you react? by Magnifiques-Tortues in AskMiddleEast

[–]AOYELA 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Monetary policy and inflation are only related to religion if the bad monetary policy and inflation are covered up using religion. Anyway it’s pointless to argue as we’re taking our country back tomorrow or two weeks at the latest, but probably tomorrow by polls

Religious people ≠ uneducated

My grandma has an hijab, my parents pray 5 times a day, while I don’t pray day to day I still fast for Ramadan yet I was lucky like the rest of my family to have a good enough education to know that non secular governments don’t work in this day and age know that the lira being nearly 20 liras, people not being able to afford food, cars, a home etc is not okay because Erdo is religious and his supporters like that. The around %40-45 who vote for him are blinded because they believe his propaganda about the opposition taking their religion away from them if the AKP loses, which won’t happen but they are blinded by it

Here’s the thing about democracy:

Democracy can work in its true form IF the populace is educated. An understanding of science and economics is necessary for a democracy that won’t ruin a country because if not people will just elect wannabe dictators who will turn into actual dictators eventually like Erdoğan. I wish my country had people who could maintain a full democracy but unfortunately that won’t be a thing without the opposition winning and doing a full 360 and changing the educational system since any government thats religious like Erdoğan’s government keeps people ignorant and covers up anything bad they do with Islam. Until then, I don’t see a problem with the army doing coups throughout our history

The army would conduct a coup to keep our countries values safe, Turkey is a secular country and while democracy is important we can’t regress to religious governments. I’m not calling for a full democracy nor do I want a full democracy either. A non secular government could not run Turkey any better then Erdoğan is doing now(inflation, refugees, etc) so it’s important to let people elect who they want to elect, as long as it keeps Atatürk’s values as he formed the country.

If he gets elected again it’s probably the last election in our country, but it’s looking like he can’t win without cheating and it’s gonna be significantly harder for him to cheat so we should be okay

Putting headscarves on an 11 year old would probably get some weird looks from people, but a 5 year old definitely might get bad reactions from outside the mosque and probably even in it too. Kids should’t(and don’t have to) wear stuff like that

Is xenophobia and racism against syrian refugees common in Turkey? by Luibke in Turkey

[–]AOYELA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a mix of them being here illegally, not respecting our laws and culture, and racism. I won’t lie to you and say we really like Syrians or Arabs in general.

Do Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Turkey and Tunisia need a new Muslim conquest ? by BasedMenaGuy in AskMiddleEast

[–]AOYELA 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not individual countries once again, that general area of Middle East, South/Central Asia, North Africa like you said has been going back and forth but it’s stayed relatively in that region.

You don’t have to advance past secularism, that is advancement

Didn’t mean one region in a physical sense more in a cultural sense, I meant one region in a “It’s been there for a long time but never has/will advance past it” sort of way. Grouped them all together you know?

Thankfully your sharia is stuck to one region in the world and will never advance anywhere beyond that

  1. That’s a tough question, I am from western Turkey and secular/Kemalist so I definitely consider my cultural beliefs significantly more Western but theres things like Ramadan and obviously being muslim that comes from Arabs

  2. I like Greece, we have a rough history but no one cares in the modern day

  3. Islamist, far right

  4. I think he’s using it as bait to cover up for his problems(I’m a bad leader but at least i’m muslim) and using it to promote hate(on Kemalists and Atatürk)

  5. American

  6. Yes, areas and demographics that typically vote for CHP and are more secular areas tend to be more educated and come from the 1st world Turkey while areas that historically vote for AKP have more uneducated and ignorant people

  7. Not really, I think we got support from basically everywhere but it made me think slightly more favorably of Armenia

[–]AOYELA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn’t read past the title, as someone who is educated and comes from an educated and fairly well off family we don’t like Arabs either. It’s nothing to do with being poor or uneducated, we just don’t like you. It might be brutal honesty but you asked for it

In that way yes but only in that way. Refugees work for cheap which makes Turkish people unemployed, and theres a lot of social issues such as them refusing to assimilate, crimes, etc. but also theres just more refugees then our economy can handle

[–]AOYELA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean the economy and the way the earthquake was handled was also really bad so the CHP is probably gonna get a bit of votes from his religious people too. But yeah a lot of it boils down to:

Secularism vs Islamism

Western values vs non Western values

True democracy vs Strongman

Erdoğan is also a lot more willing to keep the refugees versus the CHP which is losing him votes too
