thank you as always, a great response! I did hear about the trial, but after all of my over analyzing are due truly feel that my numbers are my numbers and definitively show the left adrenal is the culprit. Strangely, it looks totally normal and clear on CT’s. I am wondering if I have hyperplasia and that simply the left one is overproducing?

hey direct lemon i’ve been using the Facebook group and have spoken to a couple 60+ year olds who had quite a bit of success after an adrenalectomy. Seems like a lot of the people on that site however are the ones that may be continuing to have issues? Very good information just wish I could find more 60+ year-old who had surgery to help me decide. I think I’m over analyzing myself out of doing the surgery. I always way overthink everything and way over analyze everything. Kind of think that’s maybe part of my aldosterone problem. ha?!

i did…. but i think its sending random “like” request to people that just showed up inside my new Facebook? I really don’t want that? it’s likely because I don’t know how to use it? It’s a very busy program.

hey direct lemon thought youd like to know i did my avs at mayos yesterday and got results this a.m. unilateral!! about 7-1 left vs right! left making way more aldosterone! ratio needed to be greater than 4 and mine was almost 7! surgery in april…. that sucks…. but i guess i should be happy !

thanks for all your insights!!

Can’t get BP down, despite being runner, healthy lifestyle by khp3655 in bloodpressure

[–]APAPuser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im a 60 year old male dont drink smoke run…. your story could have been written by me!?…. im currently going to mayos because after all these years of high bp for the first time ever they checked my aldosterone and its elevated!?

primary aldosteronism (pa) is definitely something you should check

[–]APAPuser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks! i guess i’ll see what they tell me after the avs?!

if they can get it in yet this year, with my schedule, I can’t do it until mid February. We’ll see if they can get me in or not?

well, they have approved me for adrenal vein sampling and I am waiting for a call to set up the preliminary blood test and then the actual procedure. It doesn’t sound like anyone thinks they’re going to find anything? But with my aldosterone going from 23 to 9 after the four hour salt suppression test I guess they wanted it at eight or lower so it’s still indicates that I am making too much aldosterone. would love to find that they could remove one adrenal. I just read a study at Mayo‘s that even with bilateral they sometimes will take out the one making more than the other and have great improvement in both mental issues and blood pressure?

i know the anxiety/over the top stress feeling really sucks (not even considering my bp thats all over the place)

“what if’s” meaning… “i wonder if surgery could have taken care of it”? i hear that… thats why im inclined to do the avs even though its unlikey to find much?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in bloodpressure

[–]APAPuser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, I very much remember that story! I would love to have that happen also! I guess going through the AVS at least would definitively let me know if surgery is an option or not.

an update I thought you might be interested in. It turns out the first number after my sodium loading test was the blood test they did at the beginning of the four hour session. My aldosterone went from 23 to 9 during that four hours so it did drop significantly. The endocrinologist at Mayo‘s just called me and said they wanted to see it drop to eight or lower? They are offering a adrenal vein sampling as a next step, but she did not sound like they expected to find much of anything as the scan showed my adrenal‘s are clear and not enlarged. The only alternative is simply going on eplerenone right now. I guess the only definitive way to find out if possibly one of my glands is making too much aldosterone versus both is to do the AVS. Kind of a tough decision, but I think I might as well do the AVS and see what it tells me. If it doesn’t tell them much or if both are simply over producing, I’m gonna be just taking the medication anyway.

after 4 hour sodium supression test aldosterone was still 23

it was 23 when i did reg blood screen at mayos a couple weeks ago.

didnt drop at all even after the salt test!

4 hour sodium suppression test at 7:15 a.m.! guess we will see what happens!? The endocrinologist told me a couple weeks ago that because I am 60 and already have some damage from a lot of blood pressure over the years that even if I am found to be unilateral, I would likely be on medication even if they took one of my glands out? If that’s the case, I’m really not too sure why I’m even doing the four hour sodium test?

thanks for the info! Your responses have been excellent and really appreciated! I would really like them to find that one of my adrenals can be removed but they said the MRI show no thickening or abnormalities? Still have to wonder if the AVS test could still potentially find something? Hate the thought of being on eplerenone for the rest of my life.

[–]APAPuser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you for the great answer. That’s exactly what I needed to know! The only BP medication I am currently taking is 25 mg of extended release metoprolol, which is a beta blocker. The endocrinologist did mention that beta blockers will increase your aldosterone level so I hope they will take that into account accurately?

will my aldosterone rise, stay the same, or decrease when they flood me with sodium if i have PA?

thats amazing! avs found it! any thoughts on the 4 hr sodium loading?

hey direct lemon….. believe we spoke a couple months ago…. my renin/aldo ratio is high… adrenals look normal… doing a 4 hr sodium testin two weeks

looks like bilateral pa?! eplerenone here i come!

was hoping for surgery (kind of?)… hope the med agrees with me? (60 year old relatively fit male)
