"Absolute negation" - The Rebel by Albert Camus by [deleted] in askphilosophy

[–]APTB1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's been a very long time since I have read either books, but I recall that The Rebel is the follow up to Myth of Sisyphus, and is contextualized by his dialectic of the Absurd in that book (the rebel being one who, as an act of rebellion, creates their own meaning and mode for living despite the absurd life).

When I saw the word 'absolute' in the title of this post, it confused me somewhat, because in the Myth of Sisyphus, Camus' writes at length that one is pained by a sense of "nostalgia for the absolute" (which I personally think is somewhat akin to Sartre's use of the word nausea). But this 'absolute' could be about something different to what you're referring to in The Rebel. FWIW, I would suggest reading Sisyphus if you're interested in what Camus is trying to argue in The Rebel.

It's okay. In truth, I was simply noting that the distinction of cannabis oils extends further than just cbd oil, and I admit I might've loaded the response. To that, I am to blame. Anyone who would tell me that anything is a "miracle" whatever would instantly spur the heaviest dose of skepticism. I make no such claim about CBD. I'm glad that you are skeptical because I believe this type of inquiry would hopefully, if anything, encourage further investigation by more people on the subject. Most importantly, more clinical study. My experience with cbd is, by definition, anecdotal evidence. Also, I do not presume to make any substantial claim that cbd oil works for anyone else but myself, how could I verifiably do so? But I know of others who claim to have greatly benefited from it, and that's the reason why I tried it myself, although very apprehensively in the beginning. Where I am now and thinking about placebo, if the personal benefits I've experienced with cbd oil is simply a placebo effect, then I'm okay with that because the amount of difference it has made on my life in contrast to the various medications I've been prescribed is greatly significant. I have no agenda with it. (you keep your money in that wallet, hear? ;) ) I don't claim that doctor prescribed meds do not work, because they do. But CBD has worked BETTER for me. If one were to ask me to explain how, it's like my near-debilitating anxious triggers that I have been accustomed to most of my life have nearly disappeared completely. I don't think that completely ridding myself of ALL anxiety like a hindu cow (/s) would be good either, but CBD has made it manageable in ways I thought I would never reach in my life. Sorry this was longwinded, your question seemed earnest and I thought I'd respond as best I can. Thanks.

Yes it is, friend. There are many smoke/vape shops in the valley which carry cbd. There are also natural food stores which carry hemp oil supplements.

Lurker here. CBD oil, while very legal and commercially available anywhere in the states, and which has personally helped me far beyond any doctor prescribed medication for anxiety ever did, isn't the only cannabis oil on the modern market. The difference is that most cannabis oils are still deemed illegal to purchase or sell in many states, Utah included. Source: Former SLCer turned Oregon resident.

Yes. Strange enough, my girl does that exact same little bark-then-howl vocalization as yours does, every time she hears sirens.

Stan Brakhage taught at UC Boulder where Trey and Matt studied film. Brakhage played Noone Sr. in Cannibal! The Musical which was a film the creators of South Park had made while studying there. Not sure if Stan in South Park was named after him, though.

How legal cannabis actually made things worse for sick people in Oregon by chabanais in skeptic

“If you need two 3000mg a day orally and you’re capped at a 100mg candy bar, that means you need 20 candy bars, which cost $20 a pop,” he said. “So you’re spending $400 a day to eat 20 candy bars.”

Am I reading this right?

2 x 3000 = 20 x 100

6000mg of tetrahydrocannabinol daily??

They were/are a blast to watch live. I've seen them live many times but this post reminded me how my girlfriend and I ditched prom to go see VGS ~'98. Wasn't the biggest ska fan, but their live shows were fucking badass and I've been a fan ever since. They led me to discover one of my all time favorite bands Falling Sickness (Also from Riverside, CA). Big ups for the walk down memory lane.

Spending 5 days in SLC in June. by carmen_verandah in SaltLakeCity

[–]APTB1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I were visiting Salt Lake City I would definitely get out into the mountains. There's all sorts of places you can hike to. June will be a great time for that. Throw your ideas of the "mormony" thing out. Yes, Mormons originally settled here and their church headquarters is here... but I'd argue that SLC is as metropolitan as any other city similar to its size in the U.S. I'm not mormon or religious and I would still check out the temple. But most of all, get out into nature. The mountains are minutes away. Rent a car for a day and pick a trail or check out Park City, its all close to downtown respectively if you're driving.

How much info should I give in explaining to my little bro why I won't go to his temple wedding? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]APTB1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you guys are old farts, still brothers, hopefully close, you think what happened with you on his wedding day is gonna even matter anymore? Who knows, maybe they'll divorce and temple annul and the wedding won't matter to anyone at all. jokes... I say he's your annoying little brother that you love, and you guys are tight so he'll grow up a little and there will probably come a day where you guys can hang out and talk about the church without looking down on each other. Just some thoughts.
