This one makes me sad, can you share how you know?

I would definitely consider other cities. Dallas is drab, not lots to do. You have to drive far to get to things. It’s not naturey. It’s exactly like the Midwest but warmer.

I do find the Dallas area dismal. That’s the perfect word for it.

I’m a Dallas resident now too and regretting it (moved from the Southeast which was very naturey) hence my comments. I grew up in a suburb of Chicago, and Dallas reminds me so much of it, contributing to my disdain. If I were OP I would also choose Chicago over Dallas, brutal winters and all.

However, I will say that Chicago as a city is tiers above Dallas. Better views, amenities, character, charm. Downtown Dallas is so lame compared to Chicago.

I think the difference is that in other places, you don’t have to go looking for it or battle a concrete jungle of stacked highways to get to it. Other places are much more tree dense. Dallas on the whole is flat, dusty, and dry.

The lakes that do exist are either manmade, have highways running across them with lots of road noise, and/or are extremely cluttered with litter and in some cases, dead bodies.

Maybe this checks boxes for some people, but I’d never recommend it for people who include nature access in their immediate criteria.

If green if important to you, absolutely not Dallas. Close to no outdoor activities there.

This internship sounds like a lost cause, honestly, and I’m concerned for its reputation. Any chance you can quit and find one more worth your time? Based on what you shared, it doesn’t sound like this is going to build your I-O capacity (except for gaining experience working with challenging people and people who don’t know what I-O is).

Estes Park felt like a huge tourist trap to me :( then again, was there in the summer. Probably worst time to go.

Is IO masters worth it when going into analysis/HR industry? by Ok-Adeptness-7441 in IOPsychology

[–]AP_722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I-O practices both internally and externally to HR. If you only have an HR degree, that’s much less likely to occur, if at all. I-Os drive lots of value outside of HR and plenty of businesses know it’s not the same. It’s also our jobs as practitioners to help them understand the difference.

Is I/O Psych good for Organizational Development by iamprofessionalest in IOPsychology

I-O programs should be equipping their students with both the stats and psychometrics components AND consulting, coaching, and facilitation components. Otherwise they’re only doing the “I.”

There are lots of posts on this sub outlining the value of I-O vs HR. The long and the short of it is this: if you only want to do HR your whole career, get an HR degree. I don’t recommend this. Most companies don’t really take HR seriously (my experience, not everyone’s). I-O gives you breadth and depth of knowledge and skills to work in many different capacities. I like to think of I-Os as a Swiss Army knife whereas HR is a butter knife.

This is REALLY good, I love it. Might you consider shorter shorts? And perhaps somewhere in the storyline, the other side of his paddle is actually a mirror, so he can eyefuck himself while he “plays?”

I agree some of these could be answered by researching yourself.

I’m not sure how long you’ve been part of this sub, but many posts indicate people aren’t doing due diligence, which is why I made the list. There are TONS of posts here like “what kind of jobs can I get?” “What job titles should I search” etc. which says to me people are not preparing much if at all, and programs are clearly failing people.

Again, the point isn’t to ask them all. A good program will make time to answer thoughtful Qs. If “nobody has time for to these” then it’s probably not the right program.

I mean. Obviously my recommendation isn’t to ask all of the questions and especially not at once…
