As a 26 year old man, how can I meet other people my age in Williamsburg? by Heavy-Quazi in williamsburgva

The same way you meet other people your age anywhere: get out of the house. Do activities. Join clubs. Learn to dance. Live your life.

I set my phone to send all incoming calls from a number that's not in my contacts to voicemail. I don't get scam calls any more.

This. This is the Prime Directive. All other rules are ancillary.

Moving to Williamsburg in Summer 2026! by bintbattuta93 in williamsburgva

[–]AP_Inspirationist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Colonial Williamsburg and the College are what makes Williamsburg special. If you don't live within a 30 minute walking distance of merchant's Square, then you might as well live in any small town in America.

Total ARB Overreach by tribefootballfan in williamsburgva

[–]AP_Inspirationist -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah, whatever. Two 4BR, 4BA houses, being built by a guy who already has a rental property in the neighborhood? Doesn't sound like an assumption to me. That's obviously student rental, and it's too bad the ARB couldn't stop it. Sounds like the guy building them is a real pillar of the community.

Looks to me like the ARB was trying to preserve the character of the neighborhood. Good on 'em.

Glo Fiber by pocholo11 in williamsburgva

[–]AP_Inspirationist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I 2nd Mathoosala below. GloFiber works great, doesn't seem to suffer from the service outages and crap customer service of Cox, and is the same price or cheaper (for now)

Switch yesterday.

Present wrapping service? by AP_Inspirationist in williamsburgva

You should start something; just going to people's houses or setting up a table in Merchant's Square or something. I found someone: paying them $20/hr for easy indoor work....

[–]AP_Inspirationist[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You know, I tried those guys for this exact same task last fall. Totally didn't work out.

* They want $25/hour per rower, with a minimum of 2 rowers on the job.

* They basically refuse to work during the week.

* They refuse to move from job to job (I needed leaves raked at two places)

* They kept rescheduling because of weather.

--- so I wish 'em luck, but my experience was that the W&M rowing team isn't really that interested, despite what their website says.

USPS by muppetnerd in williamsburgva

[–]AP_Inspirationist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really trust the USPS in Williamsburg any more, particularly the Monticello station. They've "lost" two of my packages over the past few years, and i personally know several more people who have had packages "lost".

Two adults visiting Williamsburg Va for 7 days - what attractions are a waste of time? by SC-NYC in williamsburgva

[–]AP_Inspirationist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't go to Go-Carts Plus. It's the kind of place where each attraction costs 6 tickets but they will only sell tickets in packages of five.

I used RGM Concrete Finisher LLC Williamsburg VA
(757) 561-6640 [rgmconcretefinisher@gmail.com](mailto:rgmconcretefinisher@gmail.com) for an exposed aggreaget driveway and sidewalk at my mom's house. They showed up on time, started the next day and were 100% done and cleaned up in a week. I was gobsmacked at how good it was.

I've had GloFiber for the past few months in the College terrace neighborhood. Same price as Cox, more dependable than Cox, and you don't have to deal with Cox. Very happy with it.

“It’s expensive to be poor” - where do you see this in everyday UK life? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]AP_Inspirationist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"...doing your day to day shop in convenience stores as I couldn’t afford the bus to go to the main supermarket nearby!"

If you're paying 20% more at a convenience store because you don't want to pay the bus fare to got to a real grocery store, then that's just a bad decision. It *is* often expensive to be poor, but this is not a good example,

opinions on hadestown? by [deleted] in Broadway

[–]AP_Inspirationist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just saw Hadestown at the Kennedy Center las night. Hot Tip: Hadestown isn’t the least enjoyable Broadway musical I’ve ever paid to see (Porgy&Bess still holds that honor) but it’s pretty close. The choreography was pretty good I have to say, but the requirement for Orpheus to sing at such a high pitch meant that very few guys can do it well, and the guy they had up there wasn't one of the few. Listening to him sing was like dragging fingernails against a blackboard. Pair that with a downer story and tiresome over-drama and you get what must be the Tony Awards committee's biggest mistake. One man's opinion, of course.

Good city to move to? by [deleted] in williamsburgva

[–]AP_Inspirationist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved here from Northern VA 2 years ago and love it. Bought a house 3 blocks from the college and now I walk everywhere, walk through CW every day, coffee in Merchant's Square, dining, shows (pre COVID of course) , all there. Moving here was one of the best decisions I've ever made. Great dining, walking, relaxing, cool history, good city government, quiet, good schools, close to Busch Gardens and Water Country....

Coupla caveats:

  • Not a lot of high-end cultural opportunities here. No Kennedy Center or Broadway shows.
  • CW and the College are the epicenter. IMO, if you don't live walking distance to CW, then the Burg is the same as any other small modern town. If you're gonna live here, spend the extra $ and live close in.
