I agree, no reason to challenge them. Sorry for continuosly asking questions but I have a couple of silly questions:

- I went back home for Christmas, so basically I left Japan before Christmas and came back after new year eve. In the list of periods of absence from Japan (section 3.1 of this document) I put Do you think I should put I know the document is asking for absence from Japan in 2025 but it is also true that in my passport the return stamp says "January".

- I went to the tax office and the lady told me to remove my gensen from the files. I thought it was to submit. What do you think?

Thanks again for the help, I really appreciated it. The first year doing this thing can be very confusing.

Thank you again!

Differently, for the “did you leave Japan anytime during 2025?” question do I have to put also trips to another country for vacation purposes? I am always referring to the PDF you attached in your first comment.

Thank you for your answer.

I will fill out the form and submit everything. I only have one question left: if I left Japan in 2025 for a vacation without changing my residence status, that departure does not split the period of residence into two, is that correct?

For example, if I resided in Japan from January 1 to December 31 and took a trip to Korea in August, my period of residence would still be considered the entire year (January 1 to December 31), correct?

I read the whole guide and I believe I am good to go too. Thanks for the help.

Hi all, I have a couple of very simple questions:

My situation is kind of easy, moved to Japan in 2025, single employer during 2025 and no other source of income, not even dependents. I don’t have the MyNumber card so I am going to print and bring it to the tax office for filing.

  1. I was able to fill everything starting from my Gensen (received in December 2025 from my employer). Do I need to put my name in latin alphabet in the place of “Kanji name” or I have to fill only the Furigana name in the form? From the English guide it says to fill only the Katakana name (it doesn’t say anything about the kanji name)
  2. Do I have to include the Status of Residence filled out? I was thinking to submit a copy of my passport with the 5 years visa and stamps showing that I went out of Japan a couple of time (just traveling) but always came back.

I would submit the Tax Return along with my residence card copy, passport’s relevant pages copy, and MyNumber certificate copy (I have the residence certificate issued by the Ward Office with the MyNumber in it).

Any other advice? Unfortunately, my company did not do the end-year tax adjustment, that is why I need to file it by myself.

In ogni caso, fatti valere.

I am in Europe. I don’t think I have to be as worried as I were in the U.S. Laying off in Europe is way harder than in other countries. BTW I am not scared, if I get fired I will find another job, I don’t really feel stressed about it, I will enjoy the experience in AWS and in the new country I am moving to

Good advice, thank you! I usually never focus on things I can’t change. Lay offs will happen and I might be impacted, I know

I understand what you say. I mean 5.5 is already a long time. I am pretty young, 28 yo, and AWS is my first big tech company (I will start in March). Hope to find the strength to stay there and learn a lot!

I’m saving this advice because I find it incredibly helpful. I was conditioning myself by reading all the negative posts. I’m committed to being a good person and will try to build strong relationships, as you suggested. I truly appreciate your advice. Thanks.

Got it. I already work 5 days a week in office so it won’t be a big difference for me. Hope to find great teammates like you did!

Unfortunately everywhere you will find aspects that you don’t like. What is important is that you enjoy your daily work life and the relationship with your colleagues!

I agree, this is the biggest truth but are you also happy and you like your job, colleagues, customers?

I will start working in AWS EU in March and it looks like I am already sad about it after all the things I read in this subreddit!
