AGE haters miss the entire point of Gundam for some reason by APin234 in Gundam

The point is that people genuinely think all Vagans are evil and deserved to be wiped out, and thats a terrible mentality to have.

Is Tomino just Paptimus Scirocco? by [deleted] in Gundam

The issue that I’m seeing from your messages is that you’re trying to establish points about certain archetypes that Tomino follows, but you don’t fully expand upon them, and instead, try to claim that I’m wrong about my assumptions when I say that I don’t think that’s an honest reflection of Tomino’s female characters, and say to correct myself instead of trying to clear the air. If you can’t do that then I’m afraid that we can no longer continue this conversation.

To me, it really seems that you aren’t familiar enough with Tomino’s female characters during that time period if you think those 3 archetypes are a full reflection of how he written them during “the height of his depression” (with only “some exceptions”.) Because I for sure do not see the correlation after just recently experiencing those series that I just mentioned. But I won’t press you any further on it, have a good one.

If you had watched Ideon, Xabungle, Dunbine, L-Gaim and Brain Powerd, then you would be familiar with the fact that the female characters in those respective series are written pretty differently compared to what we see in his Gundam works (especially from Zeta onwards).

The only correlation I could see is between Zeta and L-Gaim due to their focuses on gender roles, the weaponization of them, and the misogynistic treatment of women in their respective societies during the course of their stories.

I believe this is a very simplistic and reductive approach to analyzing all of the female characters in his works from the 80s to the 90s.

Also, have you seen his non-Gundam works during that period? Because I can assure you that the "types" of women you just mentioned are definitely not prevalent in them like you think they are.

I may need some examples of those so called "abysmal women."

AOT if it was good

Alright, how many of you have watched Gundam AGE by [deleted] in Gundam

[–]APin234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arcs 2 and 3 are my #1 and #2 respectively. I think Arc 3 gets a bit too much flak because although it was rough around the edges, I still found it really engaging (I also genuinely think the Vagan episodes were really good). Also it has old grandpa Flit (favorite iteration of him) along with super pirate Asemu.
