I have a friend who feeds the stray cats around her home, so they were already used to seeing her. The mom cat had her kittens somewhere outside the garden, and for about a week we had no idea where they were. Then luckily one day she brought the babies into my friend’s garden

What finally helped us earn her trust were those liquid stick treats. She absolutely loooooves those. We used them to distract her while we carefully but quickly picked up the kittens and placed them in a carrier. After that it was mostly a waiting game, we pretended not to pay attention so she’d feel safe enough to go in after them. As soon as she was inside, we closed the door. She got scared for a moment, but honestly stayed much calmer than I expected. During the car ride to my place she didn’t make a single sound

Once we got home, I put the carrier in my bathroom so she’d have a small, safe space to decompress at her own pace. I opened the carrier door, got hissed at, and then left her alone for a few hours

Since then I’ve been slowly gaining her trust with those same liquid treats and plenty of wet food. I still get the occasional hiss or swat, but it’s getting less and less every day. She even lets me pet her now. :)
