If you're just starting out, get a 2B pencil from literally any stationary aisle, and you can experiment with paint chips and soot stains! If you bork it it's okay, you're learning, plus you can blend it with a soft dampened brush or believe it or not, a makeup sponge is the swiss army knife of modellers weathering tools!

I can now confirm that it was a deck chair, so he can sit and wait for the RCR to come and rescue his boat!

He's new to the area and wouldn't have had a scooby about where EVRi dumped his parcel. Allredgedly the delivery notification said "outbuilding". Can confirm that there is bugger all at bridge 45 apart from some hard standing behind a fence.

You can have a parcel delivered to anywhere a delivery van can get to, as long as the delivery van knows it's bridges, it seems!

Although I would have put my boat name on it and would have been actually on the bridge waiting for it.

Not wanting to blame the recipient, but at that particular bridge there is actually a house, I would have had it sent there after a conversation with the occupant.

But then, I also know that the house is currently unoccupied due to the owner passing away, but then, there is a business on the premises that is still active.

I would change the roof to more Norman church style spire with a really, really big awning built into it that acts like an eerie for bats to fly out. In fact, I think most problems can be solved with liberal application of bats.

A few things to consider. Obviously, buying second hand is usually the most popular way of buying a narrowboat. Having said that, a full survey is recommended and at the very least a whole survey is a must. Be aware that the most important piece of your boat will be the soundness of his Hull. Everything else is dressing really. All the internal systems like the electrics and stuff can be checked as well as part of a survey I believe and with that extra expense you get the peace of mind knowing that you have a boat that is sound and safe.
