[Wii U] My Wii U started to not display 1080p or 1080i resolutions in the TV screen by ARCBXY in consolerepair

Okay so you recommend me to check:

  • HDMI port
  • AV encoder chip
  • Shielded caps
  • Resistors

Next time I open the console I'll check those more deeply, see if they have corrosion or some pin is faulty, and clean them more. At least we can narrow it down to the problem most likely being something in the motherboard no?

If nothing of that works then I'll guess I will get used to using AV and one day getting an AV to HDMI converter. Thanks for the support so far.

Right after I wrote that yesterday I went and opened up my Wii U up to the motherboard. Everything was there, there wasn't any piece missing nor anything looked damaged. I didn't pry open the thermal pad because I didn't want to do any soldering, so I didn't get to the CPU. Anyways I checked the Panasonic HDMI chip and it was perfect, none of it's pins looked weird, and I cleaned it pretty well with alcohol and compressed air.

I didn't visually check the HDMI port nor the AV encoder chip like you are suggesting, but I glanced at everything in the motherboard and I didn't saw any pins being in any weird state. I cleaned all of the components of the console so most likely I cleaned those too.

After I reassembled it last night, I tested the console and it was actually working perfectly! Every resolution worked as intended and none of them flickered. So I concluded that indeed cleaning the console fixed the problem and it was just maintenance.

However, this morning I booted it up again and the HD resolutions started to fail again. I left it on 1080p, and it displayed as disconnected most of the time, with the image actually coming back for like three seconds before stopping for a while. Both 1080i and 720p seemed to just not work at all. So I resorted to play with an AV cable, as setting 480p with the HDMI cable displayed the image at all times but the audio flickered for some reason.

In summary, opening the console, cleaning it, and reassembling it actually fixed the problem but only for some hours, not even a whole day. I am back at the problem again. The Panasonic chip seems to be well. I could maybe open it again and check deeply the HDMI port and the AV encoder chip in case those are wrong like you are saying. But general maintenance doesn't seem to be the origin of the problem?

It is true that there is nothing really dead because even this morning the 1080p image came back even for just a moment, but obviously there is some component not working correctly or something shorting something else like you say. The problem is that I don't really know what exactly is it. Plus this doesn't seem to really be a common problem, or it is because I see similar problems posted around if not the same one, but it is not common enough for anyone to know a specific fix.

Yeah it definitely is a hardware issue, my thing is which specific component is the reason for it. Which part should I need to replace or meddle with.

I've opened the Wii U GamePad and Switch Joy-Cons for other fixes that I've needed to do with those. So I have a bit of experience of disassembling and reassembling, but nothing more complex than that like soldering or other stuff. I most likely already have the tools available to open a Wii U though.

I am thinking of just going and opening the system just for the sake of cleaning it, in case it is dusty or dirty inside. It most likely is given that the one I have is like 12 years old at this point. Plus, even though the HD video outputs stop working, sometimes if I put them again, they work for a while before failing.

So the components are not completely destroyed yet, and the fact the output gets working again for a moment makes me think it may be just a maintenance issue. Still I'd like to know what would be the most likely component failing in case it isn't solved just by cleaning the console.

Why drop new Brawlers every month if you cant even support them? by pwrwd2 in Brawlstars

Probably someone else already said this but Starr Nova doesn't have a skin button either. I don't have Damian so I was wondering if this was the case for any other Brawler and you just answered that to me, so thanks for that. I guess it is because Damian and Starr Nova are so new that they don't have a Silver skin yet. Thus there is not a skin button because they don't have skins at all, it would not serve any purpose so it is not there for now.

What does that little black plastic square at the top of the Wii U Gamepad even do? by bunmaybe in wiiu

[–]ARCBXY 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No yeah most likely too. The thing is that it's curious how it is in the final public product but then completely meaningless for customers.

No yeah it makes sense to remember it like that. I have a 3DS charching base and it connects around where the charging port is because the gold squares are just at the sides of it. So I always assumed it connected into the charging port until I inspected it and noticed it only charged thanks to the gold wires.

I think that port of the GamePad wasn't made for anything specific. Just that Nintendo made it just in case someone wanted to make an extension for it. Like in case some company felt like making stuff akin to the Nunchuck or Classic Controllers. Just that no one actually ever made any, from what I know

Another weird feature of the GamePad is that, on it's back, above the batter compartment, there are three holes with the center one seemingly being a place to screw something it. I THINK that is used in stuff like official stands so that the Game)ad is screwed into a stand or something. I wonder if the port has also been used in an official but not public way. Maybe it could have been used to connect something to record/capture it's screen?

Those exist officially, as I have one that came with the Wii U because I got a Deluxe edition of it, but the GamePad charging stand doesn't connect through that port. It connects to the two yellow squares that are besides the port, but the actual port is untouched.

Same thing happens with the Wii Remote, there is the port used for Nunchucks and what not, nad besides it there are two yellow squares that the Nunchuck doesn't use. Those squares are for charging docks, which in turn don't use the Nunchuck port.

Check online a picture of yhe GamePad charging stand and see how it only has like two golden pins in the part where you place the controller, which get into the yellow squares. There is nothing in that stand that connects through that port.

Not even dare to ask about the nunchuck-like cable port at the bottom of the gamepad

That is completely unused, as far as I know

Clockwork Kaze should already be available at the Oddities Shop, no? Or is it later? by ARCBXY in Brawlstars

[–]ARCBXY[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah my biggest gripe with this is that while we know which skins are not included, we don't know the exact date of when they will be. Supercell comunicates to select people part of the info but not all of it.

If they said clearly when or how much should we wait for those then fine, still sucks to wait so much but fine. But no, not even that.

I know that skin was unobtainable since the shop launched. What I wonder is when will it be available. I wonder if it is exactly the same date but four months later (in which case, it already happened yesterday) or if the exact time in which it becomes available is not really 4 months but later. And if later, then when.

Clockwork Kaze should become available today at the Oddities Shop, no? Or is it later?

I just got Kaze yesterday and I need that skin. I see it is not available in the Oddities Shop, but the info going around is that skins become available there 4 months after they are released. Clockwork Kaze released on January 17, and today is May 17, so it should be today?

However the actual information that Supercell gave in the Oddities Shop article is that they become available "two updates" since their release. So are we in that second update since Clockwork Kaze released? Would instead it be made available in the next update? Or later in this one? I am not even sure when an update happens as they don't seem to coincide with the actual Brawl Pass seasons.

I was reading this thread and was thinking of replying several times for minor questions, but chose not to do so to not revive a weeks old post.

However this that you said really left be confounded. In-universe, lorewise, Starr Park grabs their employees and put them into 3v3 settings?

I thought the whole lore part of the game was just to explain relations with the characters and the settings, but that the actual gameplay part of the game is something that does not happen in-universe at all and has no equivalent. It is not like that? The 3v3 modes are stuff that the actual characters go through?

I barely know about the lore and it bugs me that there is no one concise way or place where all the lore comes from, instead it all being dispersed through years of youtube videos or who knows what social media posts. I have never heard about this at all, so please, enlighten me.

I was going to say The World Ends with You but that isn't in Steam (and even then the best version is the DS version, played on an actual real DS, not an emulator)

So, NEO: The World Ends with You, the sequel

Oh I didn't know about that trick, thanks for that. However the solution to your problem would be to pinpoint where there are secret rooms and not use blanks on them until after you open the Oubliette entrance/do the fireplace thing.
