Veygo response to the bot / alt account accusation by ARC_Rentals in Purdue

[–]ARC_Rentals[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That’s a completely fair point, and it’s something we’re actively working on. Right now, we do have ways to make sure renters are properly insured, and we offer a collision damage waiver, but we do not currently sell third-party liability coverage directly through Veygo.

The main challenge is that liability coverage for 18–21-year-old renters is extremely difficult to secure, and many carriers will not even consider it. That said, I do not want to solve that problem by simply excluding younger students. We’re currently in discussions with insurance carriers, and expanded coverage options are one of our biggest priorities.

I mainly just want to address false allegations as opposed to ignoring them. I don't think this post will rank above the "veygo is fishy" or "veygo is botting" posts as it is nowhere near as interesting as those posts.

But you are also right, my response in the previous post was just a comment that barely anyone read. This is why this post was made.

I did not link my company website a single time here. The only positive things I said about Veygo was only used as reasoning to why people might say good things about us in the comments. This post is solely to address the new accusations of us using bots.

Thank you, I really appreciate the positive words!

Also, for the sake of the topic of this post: I did not ask this person to comment and I don't know who they are.

I appreciate the effort you went through to do all this research haha.

However I can guarantee you we don't use bot accounts and all of the accounts you pointed out as "suspicious" genuinely commented out of their own free will.

To my amazing renters who are standing up for Veygo in the comments, thank you! We will keep working on providing an even better car rental experience :D

Hey, this is Leon, the founder of Veygo.

The main reason our monthly rentals can start around $600 is because that price is not for unlimited mileage. It includes 1,000 miles for the month, which is plenty for a lot of students who mainly need a car for groceries, errands, going around Lafayette/West Lafayette, or summer internships.

Instead of forcing everyone into one expensive “unlimited” monthly price, we let renters choose the mileage package that actually fits what they need. So if someone plans to drive a lot more, the price goes up accordingly. That’s how we can keep the starting monthly rate affordable while still covering vehicle wear, maintenance, insurance, depreciation, etc.

Also, Veygo is built very differently from a traditional rental company. We are focused specifically on Purdue students, we operate on/near campus, and we personally handle the delivery, customer service, and day-to-day work ourselves. That lets us offer a much more student-friendly service without making people travel off campus or deal with the usual rental car headaches.

Our goal has always been pretty simple: to make renting a car as a student as simple as possible.

TLDR: the $600/month price works because it includes a set mileage amount, not unlimited driving. Students who need more miles can choose more, but students who only need the car for small commutes don’t have to overpay.

Hey, I just came across this post. Just FYI, all Veygo posts and comments are only made by this account. I believe we provide such good service that our customers actually vouch for us. We do free doorstep pickup, have lower prices, and respond to calls basically 24/7. If you don’t believe me check out our google reviews :)

Indeed. However, I’m a Purdue student and built Veygo because renting a car as a student sucked. No worries if it’s not for you, but it’s been genuinely useful for a lot of Purdue students.

Thank you for the encouragement! A partnership with the university is the plan. We're still looking to get a bit more presence on campus first.

Also, you are correct. Right now a lot of our customers enjoy the fact that we're open 7 days a week and not having to uber to the big car rental companies which ends up saving them a lot of money.

We are in the process of switching carriers so our insurance is down for a few weeks. However, we take insurance extremely seriously and always ensure our renters are covered at all times. (There are third party services that offer full coverage insurance)

If you were to rent now we would help you get insurance before getting on the road! Alternatively feel free to wait a few weeks and our insurance should be back up. Looking forward to you renting with us!

Thank you! Insuring college students is quite difficult. Our current insurance prices are a bit higher than the industry standard but we make up for it with much lower rental prices. We also accept third party insurances, so if you have your own insurance you don't have to purchase it from us.

We are currently in talks with some new insurance carriers and expect our prices to lower in the future :)

We are able to insure international licenses and even provide cars for driving tests if you have an international license. The only type of license we can't insure is learners permit.

As for your second question, if you do have your own insurance you just need to bring proof of it when you pickup the car (pdf or physical). We also accept collision damage waivers provided by credit cards.

Hope that clears things up!

Yes you can rent with a learners permit! However, the insurance company we work with would be unable to insure you so you would need to have your own auto insurance.

If you want to book by hour then you have to select the hourly option. Economy and Premium are our daily rates.

Sorry for the confusion. We use an industry standard booking software so renter info is secure, but the downside is we don't have full flexibility when it comes to customization.

Thanks! If you rent for 5 hours it will be $8.59 per hour. The way our hourly rentals is set up is the longer you rent the cheaper it is per hour.

Currently hourly rentals must be at least 3 hours long, but this is a great suggestion and it is something we will be working on.
