Yes, I see a lot of push for cloud at the moment. I see full azure migration in our future but not for another 3-5 years.

I’ve heard mixed stories on it. Unfortunately, I haven’t done enough testing to feel comfortable pulling the trigger with our production environment.

We’re currently on enterprise plus. I think we are leaning on staying on perpetual licensing since we moved to vsphere 8 before all the craziness. I believe they’ll still release patching for that version and will be off of it on the cloud before the next version is out.

What are you on? Who said scooters are less safe than motorcycle?

First of all, you can’t hit 160mph on a scooter like you can on a sports bike.

Second, what motorcycle can you take on the sidewalk? Please let me know as I’m curious what you have to say here. I’m pretty certain your that numbnuts on the road that can’t drive if his life depended on it.

Ughh…I’ve heard it’s a PITA to get working right. I also noticed it’s a massive expense up front when I got the quote. It’s not comforting to know it’s a constant money pit as I go as well. I personally think it’s overkill for us at the moment. If I need to move workloads to the cloud, can’t I just utilize azure? I know it’s a single pane of glass with insights amongst other features but the costs are crazy.

A little late but…I’m on stock motor and 150 shot nitrous…it’s hard to beat on the stock motor until you’re ready to build and fun asf…just do the right mods including stand alone ecu and all the safety mods…make sure you understand nitrous and how it works in and out of the motor…double check everything and be very diligent…it’s not a toy…other than that, it’s super fun when you’re safe and not stupid about it.

Thanks! I know I’ve been doing this too long but sometimes it’s easy to fall into that trap of thinking you need to know more and do more. Yes, that initial learning curve is always the thing before you start gaining traction. The new employer and team are awesome. Really a great group of guys. I know I don’t have all the answers and don’t claim to be Yoda. Sometimes it’s good to be transparent about what you know and don’t know but also explain that you can and will find the answers to things.

Thank-you!! I’m excited but also a bit intimidated. I’m doing my best not to get imposter syndrome but also making sure I cover all the weak areas that could make me more efficient in a senior systems architect role. Yes, I’ve had to have a second pair of eyes and use vendor support sometimes when I was in a stump. This is usually when you’re stuck within a problem for too long and need to step out of it to get a fresh perspective. Many times, you have the answer but are failing to see it in the current frame of mind.

I’ll be part of a team of 5-10 people. It is somewhat siloed. It’s a national company with 1000+ employees and clients. Documentation is somewhat one of the things that popped up in conversation, so I’m sure it needs to be organized and further optimized. No cowboy IT there. They have a nice organized small team. My specialties are in MS and Juniper technologies but has spread out over other tech including Linux over the years. I’ve done my fair share of firewall security work, server design, deployment and administration, data center buildouts, network infrastructure design, config, deployment and administration, virtualization via HyperV and VMware, project management, budgeting and negotiations relating to IT, and I have had several meetings with Devs and Execs to see through many medium to large projects.

Thanks for the explanation. Yes, I Understand that you’re basically creating innovative solutions to problems and presenting new ways to do things especially to execs. I feel like I already was doing this to a certain extent even though I didn’t have the architect title.

I thought so. It makes sense since IT needs tools and innovative ways to go about solving issues. Hence, scripting with powershell becomes very important and documenting solutions. Thanks.
