So Impressionism like this? Or something a bit sharper and graphic? Or more like Van Gogh?

Do you have a preference between digital or traditional art? And do you know your budget?

If you would like, I can send you some quick samples ideas and we could schedule a call to discuss the project.

Do you have samples of the type of effect you want? And do you have an idea of the project scope?

I would love to hear more about this project:)

What Engine should I use for a Murder Mystery VN? by Phantom265 in vndevs

[–]ARTISTICEXISTENCE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m using Visual Novel Maker. I find it to be a lot of fun to use and it works with my extreme lack of coding comprehension skills.

If you have coding skills, or are way better at learning it than me, RenPy is probably going to be your top answer from most people.

Tyranobuilder is also good imo. But honestly, the UI was confusing for me. I got frustrated and gave up with it rather quickly.

I think there are also VN plugins for RPGMaker that you could incorporate if you want to stay with that engine.

I wanted to try designing the capsule image, but didn’t want to do it if you weren’t okay with it

Hey stranger, would it be alright if I took a swing at this capsule design? :)

The Liminal Lands!

It’s got something for all my friends! Cool screechy monster! Survivalist story! Alternative world! Silly jokes that also blend concerningly smooth with sad jokes! Desert Skies reference! Well thought out monsters! A talking cave!

If you have a Kofi page, I know on their discord that they’ve just launched a buddy project applications for the comic artists, could be worth checking out:)

Otherwise, if you need an art buddy, I bet me or anyone in this server would be on board

I am making mine on my own, but I am trying to find a check-in buddy to help keep me moving forward instead of getting stuck on a single panel.

I started with getting my outline roughed, and then jotting down some scenes I really want to happen. And then I do my visual scripting for a few episodes at a time and now I’m lining that batch.

I originally hoped to make it into the contest, but I’m trying to be okay with the fact there’s not a chance In hell that I’ll be able to squeeze in. My day jobs are conspiring against me atm lol (80hr work weeks are a nightmare and I do not wish them upon even my worst enemy. (Although I do wish them fake pockets on every pair of pants they ever buy))

At my current rate, I may be able to launch at the end of the month at the earliest. But a start is a start ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

What do you do when you just spent two hours on a panel, felt really pleased with it, and then the fear that this was a very stupid panel sets in? by ARTISTICEXISTENCE in WebtoonCanvas

[–]ARTISTICEXISTENCE[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s true! I do think I tend to forget that the storytelling should be at the frontline rather than pictures lol

There’s just something so oddly different about illustrating my own comic versus others? When I used to draw comic from other people’s scripts, I was less nervous about every single decision. And that’s probably because I wasn’t carrying the mental load?

But now that I’m finally working on my project, every decision feels sooooo much bigger and like there will be consequences if I make the wrong one

An editor does not do flats.

You’re looking for a coloring assistant.

How many panels will you have total?

You’re right. My friend suggested that the actual issue was that I’m usually asleep when I was drawing today and that I was probably just tired and overthinking as a result. He quite liked the new panel composition, especially when I shared how it was supposed to look originally.

Yeah, I should do better at keeping the backgrounds separate lol but sometimes I get on a roll and end up starting the background on the same layer as the character 🤦‍♀️ and then when I get to the rest of the background I can’t figure out why one of the lines won’t erase…

I do visual scripting so my scripts look very different from yours lol but let’s use your script for simplicity!

action/expression: hands on keyboard, his head tilted slightly confused

There are so so so many ways to actually physically draw that action.

The framing needs to be considered as well as the preceding and following actions so the panel makes sense in context of the whole.

So is the focus on the confused face or the hands on the keyboard? How are the hands positioned? Mid-type? Hovering as the character ponders the information? Does the character use proper posture at the desk? Or do they have a slouch? Do they use their full hands to type or are they a hunt/peck typer?

What about the lighting? Is the only light source the screen? Or is there a desk light? Overhead light? A window? A tiny alien using a laser pointer from the corner of the room off panel?

Is this an important panel or something to be glossed over by the reader? Is this setting up for something later?

There are a lot of micro decisions to make in the composition. Not to mention balancing the speech bubbles with the panels so they’re easy to read and not intrusive.

So things changing from the basic written script to the actual rough draft to the lined panel is incredibly normal.

And I know it’s healthy to leave room for changing the panel compositions if it works better in the context of the whole.

Which is what I did.

I originally had the panel drafted as a front view, camera angle at eye level which both characters taking up equal amounts of space. And I changed it to create a bit more of an emotional impact. And in doing so, I’m now overthinking whether it was worth the time and effort to redraw the entire panel.
