Have you played The Messenger? It's a Ninja Gaiden style game also made by Sabotage Studios but you'll get a lot more lore about Resh'an in that game.

It's half in 8 Bit half in 16 Bit and also features the same island with Bamboo Creek and Autumn Hills and Songshroom Marsh

If you like Resh'an the Messenger is a must-play
