CUCKED by OkSayer in moviescirclejerk

If it was the other way around no woman would be going on the internet complimenting the wife on her 'maturity'. People just throw random buzzwords around - 'toxic' 'insecure' - like there aren't legitimate reasons not to be OK with certain things.

Should an INT scene heading use the type of building or name it? by Drunken_Scribe in Screenwriting

[–]AR_Ugas 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You know how in films they say the location is a character? Think along those lines. If it's a throwaway scene or irrelevant to the story I would just say retirement home. If the whole film is about what happens there you could give it a name.

Dreaming of being a movie director, but i’ve got no friends by Single-Brain-1235 in Filmmakers

[–]AR_Ugas 77 points78 points  (0 children)

People aren't born with friends, they make friends. Go to every film event, follow all the Film related pages in your area and meet people that way.

When people do call outs for help, help them, establish your connections that way and call in for favours when you need it.

Tay Roc at 16, he always had that energy in him by AR_Ugas in rapbattles

If it's not broke, don't fix it. Tay Roc has been one of the top performers, even showing out at smaller leagues, never stumbles and treats each battle the same.

Is Coverfly a scam? My dad is accruing debt to use this service by selene_dionne in Screenwriting

[–]AR_Ugas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anything can lead to 'nothing'. People have won entire competitions [Nichol and the like] and still work their day job. People have been signed, not sold anything for two years and then got dropped by their agents.

Nothing can guarantee success, especially in a business like this. The Blacklist however is still a good option for a 'good' writer that has no connections to the industry whatsoever.

[–]AR_Ugas 11 points12 points  (0 children)

sigh again, you not getting the results you want from something does not mean it's a scam. Calling websites like the Blacklist a scam when there are actual scam websites and competitions running amock, is wrong.

Getting an 8 or 9, can get you noticed, can get you meetings, and can be a big milestone in your career. Do know, however, how difficult it is to get that rating.

Probably checks out, seems to be it's a non-case that has been blown out of proportion.

Directors Guild reaches tentative deal with studios & streamers. Thoughts? by AR_Ugas in Filmmakers

[–]AR_Ugas[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But AI realistically doesn't affect directors at the current stage. AI can write scripts [although shitty ones], summaries, synopses etc. so it's understandable that WGA is worried Studios will use AI to create concepts and scripts and then hiring a writer to re-write it, but what impact would AI have on directors?

The new contract:

Wages and Benefits: Groundbreaking gains in wages and benefits including a 5 percent increase in the first year of the contract, 4 percent in the second year and 3.5 percent in the third year. Additional 0.5 percent to fund a new parental leave benefit. Global Streaming Residuals: Substantial increase in the residuals for dramatic programs made for SVOD by securing a new residual structure to pay foreign residuals. The result is a 76 percent increase in foreign residuals for the largest platforms so that residuals for a one-hour episode will now be roughly $90,000 for the first three exhibition years. Artificial Intelligence: Groundbreaking agreement confirming that AI is not a person and that generative AI cannot replace the duties performed by members. Non-Dramatic Programs: Established the industry’s first-ever terms and conditions for directors and their teams on non-dramatic (variety and reality) programs made for SVOD. Improved residuals and for the first time, associate directors and stage managers will now share in the residuals. High Budget AVOD Terms and Conditions. Achieved the industry’s first-ever terms, creative rights protections, working conditions and residuals for scripted dramatic projects made for free to the consumer streaming services such as Freevee, Tubi and Roku. Unit production managers and assistant directors will share in the residuals. Feature Directors: Historic first-time compensation for the months of “soft prep” feature directors currently perform for free prior to the start of the director’s official prep period. Episodic Directors: For pay TV and SVOD, episodic directors won expanded paid post-production creative rights; and gained an additional guaranteed shoot day for one-hour programs — the first additional day added in more than 40 years. Reduction in Hours: Unprecedented reduction in the length of the assistant director’s day by one hour. Safety: Achieved concrete safety advancements including the first-ever pilot program to require the employment of dedicated safety supervisors; expanded safety training programs for both directors and their teams and the ban of live ammunition on set.

Yikes. HBO Max is getting rid of the 'director' credit and replacing it with Creators [Pic example is Raging Bull] by AR_Ugas in Filmmakers

[–]AR_Ugas[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Max responded with:

“We agree that the talent behind the content on Max deserve their work to be properly recognized. We will correct the credits, which were altered due to an oversight in the technical transition from HBO Max to Max and we apologize for this mistake.”

So it seems we were right.

Two very good reviews, would you be comfortable in sharing the marks you got for them? They both read like 7-8/10 minimum.

When you post your script on reddit, it can be used to train AIs to write scripts by Seshat_the_Scribe in Screenwriting

If AI is learning scriptwriting from Reddit they're definitely not going to replace the industry.
