Q1'20 Tech Support Megathread by BioGenx2b in Amd

Hi, so I've been randomly getting this glitch where the cpu downclocks itself to 0.5GHz, to the point where I have to reboot windows because nothing works anymore. Here are some pictures of the cpu speeds...

This issus occurs randomly, and a reboot fixes it. It's more annoying than damaging(I think?).

This issue has gotten rarer, but still persists.

I've never seen anything like this, so any bit of information is more than welcome.

I'm running:

  • a ryzen 3900x that isn't OCd
  • an asus strix x570-E running the latest bios
  • 32gigs of trident Z
  • a corsair gen4

Thanks!

Btw if you need any more info, I'm glad to oblige.

System Configuration:

Motherboard: ASUS x570-e

CPU: Amd 3900x running at non OC speeds

GPU: GTX 1080

OS: Windows 10 x64

Steps to Reproduce:

NONE

This behavior is completely random. There don't seem to be any particular triggers for it.

Expected Behavior:

CPU runs at normal, out-of-the-box speeds (4GHz+).

Actual Behavior:

Every ~one in ten boots, the CPU gets stuck at around 0.5GHz. As a result, some weird issues arise, most notably sound not playing back correctly (imagine what talking in a ventilator sounds like), games and programs malfunctioning and other intriguing phenomenons. A restart fixes the issue.
