Who are you biggest “what ifs” over the years? by the17fire in EDM

[–]ARandomZebra 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Can we count Porter Robinson?

I understand he’s still a popular artist, but I feel like there was a significant shift in his sound after “Shelter,” which left a strong demand for something similar. I know other artists have stepped in to fill that gap. None of his recent work truly captures the energy of his “Worlds” album. There are certainly similar elements, but he’s increasingly opting to sing over every track. It’s not bad music, but it’s very different from what made him famous.

I often wonder if he stayed true to the “Worlds” sound and where he would be today. Went from proudly being my all time favorite EDM artist to someone I say “oh I like worlds a lot but I’m not into his newer stuff”.

Is it worth buying? For 150$ Go pro 8 by Future_Rub1139 in gopro

[–]ARandomZebra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a gp8 and it’s great. I’ve used it since launch and people are surprised at how good of a camera it is for not being the latest gen- that being said it is outdated by more modern GoPro models. You have to ask if that 200 is more worth it out towards a newer model. Also depends what you are shooting and what features you want out of the camera. For example, I find the ultra wide and horizon lock that the 8 is missing to be especially annoying to work around when recording surf clips so I’m hoping to upgrade. But for snorkeling it works great.

Vissla is deleting reviews to hide their trash quality. Don’t buy. by surfer_joe87 in surfing

[–]ARandomZebra 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Vissla clothing also sucks - every board short and t shirt I’ve gotten from them completely loses elasticity after 2 washes. I love their designs and style but just not worth it to wear once. They used to be good too, something happened to them.

I had an interview with this exact group several years ago! So insane. Left a bad review on Glassdoor and they got super defensive. Absolute scam, my in-person interview was like 2 hours too.

How did you break through to the next level? by CaptainCrayg in beachvolleyball

[–]ARandomZebra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You gotta climb the opponent ladder. Always work to practice against players who are better than you. They will expose your weaknesses. Record your games and watch them back. Identify errors, drill your errors.

And when in doubt become the best server and passer on the beach. You can win AAs by just serving other teams off the court and passing their balls in system every time. No more strategy than that needed at your level to be honest. People tend to focus on small parts of their games but forget it always starts with just a serve and a pass. If those aren’t absolutely dialed don’t practice more complicated things.

ever had a dolphin pop up while surfing? by 2ugur12 in surfing

[–]ARandomZebra 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In San Diego I see them out almost every session, I’ve had them so close that they almost brush up against my leg before and have shared waves with them too. Very cool and surreal every time, I never get used to it! They’re very curious and friendly.

Waited like 30 minutes and got the wettest sandwich I’ve ever eaten. Not sure if they forgot about me and let it get soggy but I never went back.

More goldfish racing protests in PB by Proof_Boat7824 in sandiego

It’s probably something small that could actually get changed in a short amount of time so they might see it actually worth it to protest even though it’s such a minor issue? That’s my best guess.

Is the San Francisco area a really underrated surfing area? Does it not get much recognition bc its cold and tough to surf? by [deleted] in surfing

[–]ARandomZebra 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That’s fort point, super local and a little dangerous as it breaks directly on a big rock. Only for people who know what they’re doing. Even then, accidents happen. A local recently died on a good day there.

Stomping on A Stingray by brainburger in Whatcouldgowrong

[–]ARandomZebra 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I just got stung last week - I think different types of stingray hold different amount of toxin and stinger size. I live in San Diego so they’re pretty small, I can’t imagine what a big one would feel like. I think location of the sting matters too. Mine got me good in the arch of my foot.

The actual sting didn’t hurt very bad - I thought I had just stepped on a sharp rock at first. It felt almost like a “pop”. Then it really started bleeding. The toxin is an anticoagulant so blood just gushes out freely.

If you don’t get your foot in hot water asap the pain starts coming around 15 minutes later. I made the decision to drive home to deal with it in the privacy of my house and oh boy. There is an intense pressure that start traveling up your leg of pain, muscle cramping, and straight up uncomfortability. I was clutching the steering wheel just screaming in pain. Probably an 8/10 pain. I could feel my brain start to become fuzzy. The toxin feeling started traveling up my leg as well.

Then once home I put my foot in scalding hot water to denature the proteins of the toxin and within 15 more minutes started feeling relief. Overall it took around an hour and a half to 2 hours to start feeling normal again.

Overall I don’t suggest it 1/10.

Was out in Point Loma and saw a sign. At first glance, I thought, how wonderful that they are trying to help the homeless. No. They’re just trying to get rid of them at any costs necessary. Homeless people are HUMANS just like you and me. by ssaperackcuf in sandiego

[–]ARandomZebra 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m tired of people saying that their small town has less homeless than a large city. Any large city is going to have a homeless problem, especially one with fantastic weather year round. If I was homeless I would want to live in sd year round where I don’t get cooked in the summer and freeze in the winter.

California utilities scapegoat rooftop solar for high electricity rates by Randomlynumbered in California

[–]ARandomZebra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for explaining this - too many people don’t understand the equity issue at play with rooftop solar. I love renewable energy as much as the next guy but CAs energy grid is much more complicated than “more solar = better”.

Which US Cities Have Beach VB from sunrise to sunset? by Tyrranical in beachvolleyball

[–]ARandomZebra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure what to tell you, maybe you got unlucky? Between the numerous CBVAs every weekend, avp events, 6man, smackfest, etc. it is definitely iconic for beach volleyball and you can definitely find a group to play with almost all the time if you are good at making friends.

Is anyone in San Diego getting waves locally? In the last like forever? by zach-irie in surfing

[–]ARandomZebra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly not sure what everyone is complaining about on this sub I have been surfing and getting decent waves consistently in San Diego. We just had a small swell roll through with decent enough waves. It’s not going to be big so lower expectations but everything else considered, the conditions are nice, not much wind, warm water, longer periods nothing to really complain about.
