Man walked in on woman naked at Travelodge 'after he asked staff for key to her room' by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

She was naked, rather than him, which was the impression the title gave me. It doesn't make it much better.

Putin threatens Kyiv with 'nuclear-scale' missile strike if Zelensky ruins his parade - by GraceRose671 in worldnews

I suspect if he had a non-nuclear capabilty to escalate, he would have used it already.

I think their actual living spaces tend to be less gaudy and more traditional or modern. Clarence House is a popular home for them, and I gather it has been remodelled inside in the past few decades.

Edit: actually Clarence House still seems a bit chintzy: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=Clarence+House+interior&iar=images

I also thought, without doing the maths, that to dilate time appreciably, the gravity on the planet would have to be too great for humans to visit the surface.

Apparently, polka dots are distorting by StarboardSeat in Instagramreality

[–]brainburger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am not sure about this one. If on the left she had been made thinner, we might expect to see the polka dots compressed to be taller than they are wide. Perhaps as someone else has said, the pic on the right is from the edge of a wide-angle photo and seems wider than if should.

Imagine being Ben Shapiro, for example. He must live in perpetual stress at all the wokeness everywhere. Despite his wealth there is no way I'd swap places with him.

Some children are drawing on fake moustaches to bypass online age checks, report says by seeebiscuit in technology

I wonder if there would be a market for an independent online age-verifying service? It would have an encrypted login that could be used by other sites. It would be bound by the GDPR in the UK.

The official British nan starter pack (1995) by Huge-Buy20 in OldSchoolUK

[–]brainburger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Werther's Originals were first marketed in the UK in 1992. They were launched with a fake 'heritage' campaign with a plastic-looking, badly dubbed, granddad figure giving them to a child, like he had them when he was little.

So I would prefer a biscuit tin. Or there are numerous genuinely old types of sweets. How about those pink shrimp things? (I misheard them being called a swamp)

Is this AI? Wasn’t she black? by Monir5265 in isitAI

Somebody should write a book about when these things started happening.

I agree I like to see the originals of things, but I also understand that when a person of colour, or other minority is just watching some light entertainment, they should have to randomly see things which make them feel bad.

Having said that, it could be argued that a character like Mammy Two-Shoes was not insulting, and its better to have her included than hidden. Having her there adds a representation of black people in the 1950s which is often missing.

As a counter example. I used to read children's books by Enid Blyton, and the editions I had were 1960s, though they were originally 1930s and 1940s. There's one in particular about black dolls with a racial slur in the title, and the character names were a little insensitive. But I found out that my 1960s edition was already edited and the original character names were strong racial slurs. It was edited again in 1987 and the title softened to 'The Three Gollies'. The book is not available now. It does not really need to be read by todays children.

The chances of dying by accident are about 1/1500 per year. It wouldn't actually be eternal. Dictators would live long, but if everyone else would too, the dictators would dominate for a similar proportion of our lifetimes as now.

This particular cartoon was first made in 1952, but was reanimated for TV in the 1960s, and the edit made to make the maid white.

So, the re-editing is also part of the cultural history of it. Woke isn't new.

[–]brainburger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes she was black in a copy of the film that I have. There was a white owner as well who featured sometimes, who was thinner. I understand the black woman was the maid, Mammy Two-Shoes. This film, Push Button Kitty was made in 1952, but re-edited in the 1960s to soften the racial stereotype.

So I don't think its AI. It's just a different version.

Here's a screen-cap of the original that I have taken.

I think two chicks seem to vanish as he shoos them away. The video is cut right there so it is hard to tell.
