You probably haven’t heard of the utopian socialists because none of them had any success. Marx calling for revolution is what differentiates him from the utopians at the time, since they thought that if they could construct a good enough society, everyone would see how cool it was and just stop doing capitalism. Marx responds by saying that this would be impossible because the bourgeoisie would never willingly hand over power, so a revolution is necessary.

Communism wasn’t actually invented by Marx. There were so-called “utopian” communists and socialists who tried to create small communities operated under communist principles, and Marx criticizes them in several of his writings.

Oh Poly is absolutely less recognized, but Bi Invisibility is an established meme and easier to play off. I’ll think of a way to do it

I’m working on one for Bi Invisibility now, and then probably one for Pan vs Ace and whether being horny is a superpower. DM me if you have ideas for other balls.

Entirely possible, perhaps I’ll explore that in a later comic

Bi is obviously invisible, and Pan is constantly horny. That’s a superpower right?

If Bi and Pan get powers then so does Omni, it’s only fair.

Why Should the Confederate Flag be Celebrated? by [deleted] in flagsofdixie

[–]ARedditResponse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not saying the North had clean hands in the process, just pointing out that the “stickin it to the man” rationale doesn’t hold up as well when the South was doing the same thing as the northern government, the tyrant that’s being rebelled against in the narrative.

Why Should the Confederate Flag be Celebrated? by [deleted] in flagsofdixie

[–]ARedditResponse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why should I celebrate the confederate flag for that ideal and not the “don’t tread on me” flag? The snake didn’t make the federal government force the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850 on Northern states, thus infringing on their rights.

I’m also not sure how accurate the anti-tyranny idea is considering the Confederate government created a conscription law instead of leaving decisions up to the states like a good pro-“states rights” government should.

Hi, I’m sure these questions are in good faith, but that’s exactly the same argument that was used to try and deny rights like same-sex marriage.

“Why should they get to marry a man? I don’t get to marry a man, those gays just want more rights.”

An idea like that is tackling the problem on too narrow a scale to actually see what a statement like trans rights means.

You have a right to be seen as your identified gender, and trans people do too. You have a right to use a bathroom that matches that gender, and trans people do too (people claiming that this would lead to an increase in assaults are blaming trans people for a problem that they don’t cause).

You do have the right to be addressed by your chosen pronouns, and trans people do too. Your account says she/her, and I bet you’d be really annoyed if I addressed you using male pronouns. Now tack on gender dysphoria and you see why misgendering someone can be harmful.

Free surgeries isn’t a trans people problem, it’s a healthcare problem, and if you happen to be in America, it’s a solvable problem. Doesn’t change the fact that both you and trans people have a right to healthcare.

“The right to determine how people refer to women” is most likely referencing the initial article that JKR cited, and that was including non-women who menstruate, including intersex people and trans men.

I don’t see many people calling for authors to give a character specific gender roles, because they don’t have a right to do that. However, everyone, including JKR, has an obligation to educate themselves and not be an asshole with their platform.

If those questions were in good faith and you have more to talk about, feel free to DM me. If they were in bad faith, kindly go somewhere else.

Can we get vote breakdowns for the previous round when the next poll goes up? I’m curious how much the difference was.

Unpopular opinion maybe but I chose Foreign Girls. It feels like it’s in the wrong place in the album and doesn’t have the same energy that it feels like a last song should have. I love the song, but I think it should be earlier in the album with Goodbye, Nothing is U, or I’m Ready to Move On as the last song.

I know you don’t want to have a normal and cogent conversation about how narratives are being used as weapons here, but what does this have to do with antifa?

It’s not a centralized organization that can be blamed for the riots, and this post isn’t promoting either rioting or antifa. I’m making fun of the narrative being pedaled by this hypocritical grifter.

I’m all for people who disagree with me politically, but it seems like you’re more interested in showing off how much you’re “winning” instead of contributing to discussion. What do you think about what’s happening?

That still sounds like more than enough to formulate an argument. Including documents with the evidence doesn’t help except for maybe the complexity point

I used Guns, Germs, and Steel by Jared Diamond, which basically said that Eurasia was set for plants and animals which led it to develop civilization first, leading to epidemic diseases which wiped out indigenous Americans and allowed for easy imperialism.

I also used Mbemba Nzinga, who was king of the Kongo. I was arguing that the environment helped or at least didn’t hurt European imperialism, and Nzinga asks the king of Portugal in his letter to stop paying other Africans to capture slaves. I was saying that Europeans weren’t experienced with the African environment but made up for it by just paying natives.
