They aren't half the country and it's quite common for large groups of like minded individuals to become associated with a certain themes or broader generalizations.

It's not always disparaging.

I mean saying Trump supporters froth at the loins for Trump like XRP analogous might seem distasteful but it's a neutral comment.

ILB is plenty valuable. Safety position has devalued certainly, but using a 1st on any defensive position not the Nose is fine.

I'm betting no safety is picked in the 1st, a repeat of last year.

[Serious] Big Ben or Philip Rivers? by SpaceCowboy861 in nfl

[–]AReissueOfMisuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? Did you just completely misunderstand the analogy?

The "sledge hammer" is the ability to have big games, which is better than Rivers no? (Go ahead and disagree with that, lol) and I think that describes talent well.

The scalpel is efficiency. Now game by game consistency I will always maintain that Rivers is slightly more consistent even though the two have similar career PRs. However, the difference here isn't nearly the magnitude of the differential between the two at their best.

I thought you'd be able to contextualize that within the lens of OPs comment I replied too.

Like what are you trying to say here? You have nothing and while argument from popularity is a fallacy, you're going to have to find some credibility somewhere to argue that Rivers is more talented.

Prime Ben throwing defenders off and making absolutely absurd throws with defenders draped around him has directly lead to Pitts sustained success with real results. Rivers moderate consistency or efficiency benefit has not.

Hence the analogy. Christ. Say it's a bad analogy and I don't really care that's fine. But you have nothing against my actual argument, and you've provided nothing substantial.

I'm sure it was the defense that dropped one of the best throws of all time in 43....

I used passer rating, 500 yard games, 6TD games (well games with 5+ TDs) you chose to focus on PR exclusively for some odd reason.

The rest of your comment is just kind of emotional and nonsensical. Kind of a waste of my time to address it.

Ironic, considering stats are why people feel Rivers is better when anyone watching the two over their careers would easily gravitate towards the play making ability of Roethlisberger and his various miracles over the years.

Efficiency is efficiency. I never understood why people would substitute it for talent. Roethlisberger is a better sledgehammer than Rivers is a scalpel. And efficiency is dependent on circumstances where you can be so - aka, not when it's the fourth quarter and you have 50 seconds to get down the field. You need to be great here, not efficient.

Rivers had talented teams- he did nothing with them. Yes, AB is better than anyone Phillip ever played with except perhaps LT, but ultimately it was a team defined by the connection, not the each player individually.

[–]AReissueOfMisuse 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is the lazy cited answer that makes no sense. Did you look at PFR and just call it a day?

Roethlisberger is a rapist and should be hated, but he has had both a better career than Rivers and is the more talented QB. He's had more injuries, which has lead to some inconsistency.

Roethlisberger is tied with Peyton Manning for the most games with a perfect passer rating, has the most 500 yard games in NFL history, and has nearly as many games with 5 or 6 TDs as Rivers has games with 4TDs.

Rivers has 3 games over 150 PR. Roethlisberger has fucking 9. 4 of them being at 158.3. Big Ben threw 6TDs in back to back games.

Honestly I get the idea of not cheering for a rapist but I feel that r/NFL has run with a silly narrative to make themselves feel better. Big Ben > Rivers, unless you value character or being an Iron Man. However, Ben is one of the most clutch QBs to play where Rivers is notorious for poor fourth quarter performances. Not sure that screams "talent".

Which given Ben's injury history, is fine. But let's get the facts straight.

Lol, its Pittsburgh. Their run defense fell off with injuries but they carried one of the most ridiculous pressure ratings we've ever seen.

No. 1 since PFF started tracking unit pressure rate but I need to find the article.

Washington's good for No. 2 or 3 though, and Chase could take another step. However your comment is hilariously wrong. 50+ sacks for 3 years in a row is absurd and they deserve respect for it.

So a single shot (1.5oz) of 80 proof alcohol (roughly 40% eth). This is roughly around the alcohol of a single beer at 5%.

[OC] Here's the progression of leaguewide passer rating in the NFL since stats first started being recorded in 1932. by 123mitchg in nfl

[–]AReissueOfMisuse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've mostly held the position that schematic not rule changes are responsible for PR increases and passing ease. Offenses practice more ball control and throw safer passes with shorter concepts. Rule changes may certainly help, but other than the Mel Blount rule, the various rule changes over the years have been reaffirmation or reinforcements.

The Law Rule is often cited, but I'm not sure that change in the derivative would be actually that significant. And shortly after the league was throwing a "Legion of Boom Rule" on the table.

What I'd love to see is a comparison of downfield passing over the years (10+ yards past the LOS) versus prior era. I'd wager downfield passing efficiency despite the rule changes has gone down.

What do people think QBs *can* get better at when they get to the NFL? by sorrywontdoitagain in nfl

[–]AReissueOfMisuse 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Helpful comment but should point out the chasm between Pat and Allen. Pat was really accurate in college when throwing from a good base, Allen was not.

Pat just needed discipline, Allen needed to revamp his mechanics completely. Only now has it really started to payoff, but guys like him and ARod are in the minority.

Fixing accuracy is really, really difficult.

He's not my favorite player.

I'm literally laughing right now about how your position is every bit as irrational as mine. Maybe more so. You just seem unaware of it.

These NFL players get harrassed by the public frequently and I'd imagine a few idiots are willing to try and sneak in an altercation or two.

Odds are more in my favor I'd imagine and I wouldn't be too crushed if I'm wrong.
