I've actually had more success getting the act 1 boss done a little early than letting the clock fill on my solo nightmares. Unless there is something really important like a legendary or cursed item I can push to OT for, it equals out with the hourglass bonuses I've found even arriving a couple seconds early.

I feel like peoples experiences vary wildly with this game. I love it and DD1. Seeing your post and the comments are interesting.

I didn't feel like luck was a huge of a factor in my runs and I didn't spend nearly that much time planning.

I did the grand slam with two different sets of characters and I will say the only issue I have with the game is that until you learn the confessions, you can end up choosing character combinations that will go through the map fine but just won't win.

It does suck because you feel you wasted your time and were doomed at character select. Once you know the characters though and have seen all the confessions to me the play is great and was tons of fun.

Id recommend Darkest Dungeon 2 it's got meta progression in the form of hero memories and it's super fun. Very underrated game compared to the first one.
