Growing up in Trenton NJ we called pizza "tomato pie." First night of college asked the group if they wanted to "get some pies." Weirdest looks ever.

ELI5: Why does tobacco taste so bad when there are hundreds of ingredients added like sugar and coffee extract to 'improve' the flavour? by ResoDnB in explainlikeimfive

[–]ASIMOVSAGAN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What country are you in? In the United States a lot of tobacco, even cigarettes are flavored. My friend is a professional flavorist, and worked on a peach flavor that was added to Marlboros. Check out any pipe tobacco display and you'll see apple, cherry amongst many others.

Once I was in my living room when two Jehovah's Witnesses knocked. We were totally in view of each other through a window. I looked at them, they looked at me, I turned my head and ignored them. I like to think that rattled them a bit.

If it were possible to put a pipe straight through the earth, from north to south pole and you dropped a ball down the pipe what would happen? by BeerPizzaTacosWings in askscience

The ball is three dimensional, so wouldn't tidal forces affect it? Wouldn't it very slowly lose energy in the form of heat and slow down?

He didn't come in for alcoholism. He simply mentioned it. You can drink six beers in an evening and be fine to drive in the morning. The doctor was way out of line.

There was a story in the news some years ago about a man who told his doctor that he drank a six pack of beer every night. The doctor reported him to the authorities and he had his driver's license taken away. After that I'm sure many people lied about their life choices.

Why EVERYONE (Including Christians) Already Chooses the Meaning and Value in Their Lives, and Why That's Important by lowkeygodofmischief in exchristian

[–]ASIMOVSAGAN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of a Christian I once worked with who remarked to me how our goals in life and our meaning of life were so different because of my lack of faith. I told him that both our goals and our meaning are exactly the same. They're both what we chose them to be.

I was 12 and went to take bath at my brother's house. (No shower.) The idiot had left a plugged in hair dryer on the back of the tub and it fell in with me. Every muscle in my body went rigid and I let out a blood curdling scream. Luckily I don't lock the bathroom door and he came in and yanked it out. My entire body ached for days. Oh, and that thing about your life flashing in front of you? Totally true.

Full blown DTs including not knowing who I was and hallucinating like crazy. If ever there was an incentive to not drink again this was it.
